What would you prefer - 182 wise?

Work colleague is buying a new car, he wants a Clio 1*2 - after some persuasion by myself of course ... £6.5k will get him:

1. '55 Trophy 60k miles (standard)
2. '54 182 with 45k miles, Evo FQ360 suede recaro's, KW V2's & 15" 2118's.

He does 20k a year & is planning on going 5 or 6 track days a year.

What would you have? Is the Trophy really that much better, would it be better on track than a 182 with KW V2's?

I went for a mint 182 over a trophy.. My budget was 7k. I hAven't regreted it!

Option 2. I've owned both (Trophy and V2's). Once setup correctly, it's as good on road as a Trophy, but better on track. Trophy's don't work as well as a standard 182 on track, not as throttle adjustable.

Add a whiteline ARB to the V2's, and it's an incredible setup.

Although bin the 2118's, horrible f**king heavy things.

I'd also go for option 2.

Yeah but a trophy is what it is so why not leave it that way nice and original.

Still just a 182 with fancy dampers with an expensive rebuild cost;) I'd go for the modded 182 personally Dave. If he doesn't like the ride on the KW's they will get sold in a heartbeat on here.

Personally, i think no. 2 as well .... but again, with something slightly lighter than 2118's, shame turinis are so common lol - would be perfect ;)

Trophy certainly wouldnt hold its value any better than a normal one at 100k miles in 2 years time! And theres the cost of rebuilding the dampers to factor in as well. Hi squestions were mostly re: V2's vs Sachs on the road & track, and i think Warren has covered that one nicely!

I'll show him this thread later on i think. So keep the opinions flowing nicely please :)

If he wants to mod get the 182, or trophy and leave it standard. IMO

Only from the various stuff I've read on CS, I'd go with the above.

Also a 54 182 should have had the belts done, would a 55 Trophy have them done yet?

ive owned a standard Trophy and 182 with cup packs.

the trophy is an awesome car and does handle better than the standard 182, but its got only a few creature comforts plus 20k a year the 182FF will be cheaper to run (probably) and more comfortable

Both have their pro's and con's.

Bigger insurance premium for the modified 182 over the standard trophy,
so depends on age, as mods could prove expensive if he's a younger driver.

He's an old fart like me, so insurance for either is about £350 ...

I think i need to try a Trophy, as i've had a 182 & a 172 Cup, then ill be able to advise correctly, & get to have a blat about on something else fun & french ;)

OT: Dave, you coming to Llandow tomorrow/friday in the VTS?

Can have a quick nip about in my Trophy if so.

I've driven 172 cups / 182 Cups and FF and my trophy,

the trophy is awesome in stock form.

However I'm sure a decent coilover'd well setup 182 is more apt for the track. (but probably worse for the UK's road conditions in comparison to a T)

Buy the second one, take it back to standard and make some profit, then buy the first one as well as having some extra cash. :)

Ill take the coilies for a start and would supply you with my suspension. ;)
