Whats the added benefit of adding the Cup Alternator setup ?

I have a 2002 172 Ff and was considering getting rid of my A/c as i never use it.

I was gonna remeover the A/c Compressor, Condensor, A/C Radiator, pipework etc and replace it with the Clio 172 Cup setup.

I have seen that Yozza sell a kit to do this for £349.

I'm very much thinking about buying this kit.

But before i do, how easy is the Ff A/c setup to remove and how easy is the cup setup to fit?

Cheers

For the cost of it, there is zero benefit.

You can remove all the gubbins and just replace the compressor with an idler, otherwise its a whole lotta work for nothing.

would you not be better with one of those things that takes the alternator off a certain amount of revs to free up power or an underdriven pulley?

Quite suprised at the answers to this. I always thought aircon zapped a bit of power and in theory cost a few extra mpg (even when not in use) :S

Would you not get your cash back anyway with the saving on a cam / aux belt changes as the car would be classed as a Cup thus a few hundred quid cheaper to do than a FF?

I removed mine a few months ago...Took 3hrs in total with a friend

Quite easy TBH, remove bumper, unbolt all associated aircon/tensioner parts and then re-fit the new "cup" set-up! It's all self explanatory

I guesstimate 15Kg was removed in total, engine seems to rev a little more freely.. But this is more than likely a placebo effect?

The good advantage of fitting the cup set-up is aux belt changes, they only take 10minutes now, as no tensioners are fitted WIN!

When not in use the compressor clutch is freewheeling, when it is in use and you boot it, the ecu releases compressor drive anyway.

To convert your looking at spending near £400.

Thats a LOT of aux belt changes, and a single cambelt change keeps the car good for 140k from new, theoretically.....thats a LOT of driving lol.

unless you are going down the itb route or going for a full track ****, there is no need and no gains to be had by removing the a/c to be honest. waste of money.
