whats the noise? possible power steering pump? sounds like dephaser?

Ok so not even botherd with my car for the passed month or so.. as ive had mega problems with it since november.

Was suspected to be dephaser but now i think its the power steering pump again as when you turn the wheel the tapping/clunking noise goes away.

history.. cars had the belts done but not dephaser.. has apparently had the power steering pump changed and the belt and pully to go with it as it went back in november causing a large mess.

its been driven around 8 miles since all of this work.

so here is a video.. note the noise goes away when i turn the steering wheel.

car is not driveable to a specialist or anything as it has a duff driveshaft and no interior.
any help appreciated.

F*ck.

That sounds expensive. Checked for play in the alternator? Water pump replaced with the belts?

Everything else I can think of is £££

will take a look at the alternator tomorrow, dont think the water pump was replaced.

what i dont understand is why the noise goes away if you turn the wheel.

it will no dout be expensive but want to know what the problem is before i set about breaking it for parts or fix it eventually.

Was the water pump and PAS replaced with a genuine parts as the autofactors do the water pumps for as little as £11 and they're s**t!

Deffo sounds like the PAS pump but you really need the aux belt off to be able to check the pulleys for movement. If you want to rule the dephaser and timing belt out you will be okay to quickly start it without the aux belt but not for too long as the waterpump is aux driven and you can damage the dampened pulley.

How much (how big of a job) is it to replace a PAS pump? If it pops does it cause more damage to other parts?

Just noticed mine makes the revs drop a fair bit when steering 'on the spot'.

Also, does the whine that I'm assuming is linked to it, vary in pitch with the revs when driving?
