needed a good scrub, so with washing up liquid and a brush i cleaned them, using baby wipes to get the caked on dust off

doing 2 at a time to stop me getting bored and doing a half arsed job

then started to sand using grit paper, but then it started raining

Welcome to the world of dry hands, inhalation of paint fumes/dust and plenty of swearing/cursing

Laura watch the coarseness of your glass paper IMO. Too coarse will cause you more problems than good when it comes to spraying. 400 seems a bit rough. 800 would be better....then go to say 1500 wet and dry maybe?

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
seriously its fine ive done so many sets this way and all of them have been spot on, i wont be changing my methods, this thread is just to show how i go about it

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
well tbh the finish that is going on these wheels you wont notice if they are smooth or not underneith anyway hehe, im just going a bit mad with them :p

  Mk4 .:R32
my 172 came with those wheels. sold them for 50 quid with tyres lol. They were badly kerbed though like those ones.

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
nah the pic still has all the dust on it, ill update tonight when ive spent a bit more time on them

Yep, i'd say p120 imo. I've used various grades over the last few weeks. That looks super coarse. 400 ftw

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
it looks like that because of the paint underneith...
ill take a pic of paper if you really want lol

im just doing some superturismos, 4 more spokes than those :p mega pain in the arse. do you need to take off all the paint down to the primer?

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
sanded one whole wheel now then started to correct the kerbing

laura are you using p38 car body filler, if so i would recommend using the isopon metalik filler as it sets as a metal compound, making it structurally more stable. p38 may crack and effecting how long the wheel refurb lasts for.

i you just want to tart them up to sell on then it should be ok but if your keeping them i would recommend looking at the other filler

^^ how expensive is that filler? i really wanna do mine now tbh, myne av got some nassty curb marks on them an need doing. Is it easy to do them any colour as i wanna do em williams gold.

Seeing as ur the pro wat sandpaper should i use and in which order?

^ Forget that, just looked at the guide once again an realised its got the grades of wet/dry that i need so will go with that. Cheers very much

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
jim, ive used this whole method several times before and honestly ive never had any issues with over a years worth of use.
its only for the very thin layer to smooth of kerbing, for the deeper stuff i use AC

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
It comes in like a superglue bottle, with an aerosol activator, I get it from motorfactor shops such as Brown Brothers or Autopaint - I'll get pics when i'm not naked :D

as i found out yesterday :p so when i do my bros ill use this as its a pretty deep

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
something inside me really likes primer grey lol, i was very tempted just to leave them at that :p

  AMV8, Mk1 Golf
only doing 2 at a time , my sheds big but its not quite big enough/got enough floor space to do all 4 lol

  Punto/Clio GTT
want a tip? dont want you to think im telling you how to do things as i know you can do it yourself you independant woman you

  Mito Sportiva 135
Looks good but to do a "proper" job you should be taking the tyres of really to do the whole thing.

Saves all the taping up too!
