Wheelbearings on 172, DIY?

I was planning to go to Rentech to get my wheelbearings done but i'm scared that it simply won't make it as they are really loud now!

Do i need any special tools to fit new ones? The rear ones are the ones that need doing.

yes, they need to be pressed in\out of the discs, when I bought new discs I paid for them to have new bearings pressed in ready.

The bearings are a b**ch to get out, I have managed to get them out of drums but not discs. If you try to get them out yourself chances are you will damage the discs.

a small local garage will only charge you a tenner max to press the bearings in for you..

Front or rear bearings?
You can get a second hand front hub for £40 fitment maybe 30 minutes if your slow.
Rear hubs are part of the disks so best change the disk as well.

If you get proper Renault rear discs then new bearings are already pressed in so if your discs are anyway near doing (or perhaps badly rusted since the rears rust badly round the edges) might pay to do both jobs at once.

yup genuine discs have them in already so nice easy job.

Phoned up a local dealer and they said they're not pressed in with discs so i may as well just buy the bearings (£33.95 per side) and take it to a garage...

Rear ABS discs do come with bearings already fitted.

they are a **** (or can be) to get out and replace

labour time on that ends up making it easier to just get a new rear disc and bearing in one go

front bearings are more of a pain.... can be hard to get the hub off the car if its stuck... quite a few things attached to the hub to slow it down

also you need a press (hydraulic or fly) to get them out and in (although a vice has been know.... but my god thats a hard job)
