Wheels 4 Robbie Targa Rally

  172 Cup
Had a fantastic day last Sunday competing in this charity targa rally at Throckmorton Airfield.
It was held to raise money for a young lad called Robbie who suffers from many health issues and severe cerebral palsy which confines him to his wheelchair.
He currently has a specialist wheelchair which he has nearly outgrown and the aim was to raise funds towards a rough terrain type.
The event was a huge success and without doubt the most enjoyable I have taken part in.

We arrived saturday afternoon, pitched our tents and got set up for the evening with a few beers and the England game to watch on a screen we had brought.
Got up early on the Sunday morning and took the trailor over to the padock area where we got the cars set up and scrutineered. In our group we had my Clio and two BMW compacts.

The day consisted of a number of tests run both forward and reverse on a mixed surface of broken tarmac/concrete and loose gravel.
The afternoon tests were all tests run into one big one approx 10 miles, which we had a few goes at again both ran foreward and in reverse.

We had a slow start getting used to the layout of the tests and me pushing a little too hard, however as the day went on our times got quicker and quicker, we even set the fastest time on the second to last test beating car 1 by one second. The clio was spot on all day and felt really quick through the tight chicanes. Having said that it was suffering with the lack of a LSD at times, especially powering out of haipins, its a something that I will fit sooner or later.

At the end of the rally we finished 4th in class and 7th overall out of 50 cars which I was really happy with, considering we were down in the mid 20's at lunch.
Just need to imporve my driving skills now, as the car is certainly up to the job. This was my first targa rally I have competed in and certainly wont be the last.

Anyway here are a few pics from the day.

He currently has a specialist wheelchair which he has nearly outgrown and our aim is to go one better and raise the funds towards a rough terrain type wheelchair. This will enable his family to take him to places which are currently very difficult.
