When Buying Your Clio

Did you compromise?

I've been loking at a few and there all either, high milers, poorly specc'd, wrong colour, or fecking miles away or a Trophy ;)

So did anyone compromise when buying there's and get one in the wrong colour or travel the length of the country for one?

No. I waited till i got the right one...Just so happened to be right at the right time so to spk.

Looking at 182's, got upto 7K to play with, done less than 40K has some sort of service history, looking at RB, Arctic or Capsicum colour wise :p

I advertised that way sellers or intersted parties came to me.

Cut down on the time wasters & scrap heaps.

I really wanted a silver one, but as soon as I saw my one advertised (and knowing how rare it is) I just had to call up about it, I was on the phone within an hour of the blokes ad going up and arranged to see it. I was so lucky to get it :approve:
I spent about two months scouring everywhere I could about three times a day. It paid off in the end

Dude my advice to you would be buy a 172 cup and pocket the change. Infact. get the bumper respray'd if it's needs it, turini's refurb's. And it's done. try and find a mint example for around 4k! Best looking RS made and a great platform to build on.

Bear in mine my 172 was 3.3k! 1/2 your budget for the same car in essence.

  Scirocco GT 2.0
Yep mine has everything I need but AC but the colour, wheels, overall spec, price, engine etc all matched the rest of my checklist and it was less than 6 months old with 0 miles on the clock so I compromised!

  Petrol Blue 182
Im looking at getting a CUP right now and have two lined up, i think i already no which one i want but gonna have a look at other one aswell.

Not much spec to compromise on a CUP as they all look the same and reno did the compromising for me!

I really wanted a LY 182 but closest one I could find for sale at the time was in Bristol! Viewed the RB in Dunfermline and changed my mind right away!

7k would get a minter for sure! Hold out for the right one, and travel if required. A train ticket to almost anywhere will be under £100, or get a cheap flight.

I bought the first one I looked at because I wanted the Recaros :rasp:

I was meant to be buying an Ibiza Cupra but it just caught my eye...

No. I waited till i got the right one...Just so happened to be right at the right time so to spk.

same happened with me tbf, i wanted a black gold, around 30k mileage, 182 with both cup packs and around £7000, and lucky for that is what i got just before my insurance ran out as well

bought the model and colour i wanted, but only had a week (due to circumstances at the time) to find&buy one. looked at four and did travel some distance for each (furthest was a proper waste of time - real nause when people are 'economical with the truth' about a car's condition, esp. when the buyer's travelling).
one i bought was easily the nicest cosmetically, but has suffered with some mechanical probs - had less than 30k on the clock and i naively hoped it'd be good. they weren't faults i'd have been able to identify whilst looking at the car casually, but lesson learnt anyway.

When I decided I wanted a Clio then it had to be a 172 Cup. I went looking for the cheapest none accident damaged one I could find as I knew I'd be changing most of it. Paid £2500 for mine with 93K on it.

Spent another 4K on building a fresh engine, box, suspension setup etc. and it should be well North of 200bhp by next week and (in the right hands) be capable of driving around the outside of most stuff.

Decide what you want to do and then spend the money. If you want a standard car with no major fuss post purchase then buy something thats mint and the spec you want.

Cheers

I made the biggest compromise ever, buying a salvaged Cat C.

Didn't pay off. Has been a ball ache since.

Mine had to be a flame red ph1. Travelled to Bedfordshire on a 7am sleazyjet flight after under 3 hours sleep due to a gig the night before. No I didnt compromise!
