I've not looked for another car in a while, but suprised to find that Pistonheads classifieds is a bit poo - why is no one advertising on there?
So far I've been checking:
- Gum tree
- Auto trader (also a bit poo)
- Ebay
- Random facebook groups

What else should I have in the favourites list? I've heard of something called swapz??

Auto trader if you want an easy purchase.

Gumtree if you want to view a shed, then get robbed at knife point when you go to view it.

Ebay if you can trawl through all the s**t and people with no idea what they're selling.

Pistonheads/designated forums if you want something specific.

PH is definitely for certain cars. Frp, Trophy, V6, DC5, FRS etc etc. You wouldn't go on PH to look for a 1.4 mk4 Golf, Gumtree material.

I like Gumtree mostly due to the volume of cars!

That's true, but it's still AT where you get the same cars mentioned but with the occasional bargain, because the person selling their Trophy is a 40 something guy who bought it new, did 3k a year in it and didn't realise it was that special a car, whereas anyone who lists on PH is probably an enthusiast, and knows fully well how special a car it is.

People who don't use the internet much/forums, probably use just AT.

Gumtree has no more wasters than your average forum IMO.

If you can tie your own shoelaces and have common sense you can buy a car advertised on Gumtree successfully. It's just an advertising platform at the end of the day.

Buy a lovely red R26, so the owner can buy an Impreza.

I really dislike that on autotrader the general consensus is to write absolutely f**k all about that specific car and just list the general features of it and maybe write "car is in good condition" whereas on eBay you normally get an advert with more than a few words.

Iirc if you were a member before a certain time its still free?

Yes and they said they were gradually going to keep moving that date forward i.e. as soon as you've been a forum member for 5 years or so you can advertise for free... so far that hasn't happened :anguished: which is annoying as I miss out on that by about 3 months.

Still free for me, think i've been a member since 2006/7. That said, i've posted about 100 odd times as it conjures the biggest shower of c***s alive to one place.
