Which one to buy 172 or 182?

Hi there just wanted a little friendly advice about which clio to go for. I have about £4000 to spend and am not sure whether to go for the 172 or 182? There are lots out there but prices seem all over the place. Any help on making my decision will be really welcome.

£4k is one of those sort of in the middle budgets really.

You'd get a mint 172 for £3500 with the belts done etc, that's top top money. Where as £4k on a 182 is kinda bottom of the range. Going to be high-ish miles etc.

What colour do you want?

Oh and welcome! :D

I'd go for a 172 on that budget myself, you should get a minter and hopefully some toys!

Thank you I was thinking more along the lines of a 172 because I love the red colour. Although being girly I like the look of the exhaust on the 182 better!

Get a mint 172 for that, low miles, belts done etc!

Most 4k 182's will be either high mileage, no belts done, or rougher than Daniels arse after a night on the curry ;)

Go 172. I've had my (cup packed) 182 2 years now and love it but i'm seriously envious of the suspension options available to everyone else. and the twin exhausts feel a little chavvy now. and a 172 cup has turinis (baa).

^ Ignore him. His is broken and is thrashed daily from cold.

Mine on the other hand, has been touched by the Clio gods (Fred@BTM) and is a much wiser investment. Red one too :)

firstly welcome to CS

yes there is a wide range of 172/182 price wise.

Tbh id have an open mind, test drive both of them see which you prefer

If you want an inferno orange they seemed to be going cheap for a 182.

172 all day.
As Daniel said it'll depreciate a bit less, plus you're more likely to get a good one for your budget. Better than buying a less good 182 just because you want twin tailpipes, and they are basically the same car at the end of the day.
Also, as above, there are more suspension options and the exhausts are usually a bit cheaper too.

The only reason I'd buy a 182 over a 172 would be if it was a Trophy or it was LY (neither of which you'll get for £4k).

I love the ph2 172s. Much more subtle than the 182s. Still, age would be a factor. They're what, 7 years old now? Just be replacing parts etc wouldnt you?

Depends if they've already been replaced. I hardly ever replace anything on mine now because it's already been done. Apart from the consumables obviously, but even the brakes and tyres seem to last ages.

My 172 is 9yrs old (51 plate), the only bits that have broken and been replaced have been:
- Gearbox reverse switch
- Melted steering wheel
- Xenon headlight units

Everything else ive had done id class as wear and tear:
- Broken suspension spring
- Replacement disks and pads
- New tyres
- New exhaust
- Tracking
