Which speakers to go for?

Well being the birthday boy that i am today, ive just had a new head unit put in, and ive discovered that the speakers my brother gave me (which i thought were useless as they were only 10cm) have gone in the back nicely and are certainly an improvement over the standard rubbish.

Now im not wanting a big ICE install here. As soon as anyone mentions crossovers and amps my hair starts to burn, all im after is a pair of upgraded front speakers. I cant be arsed with components as im just not that clever, so im after coaxials that will just bob straight in, in place fo the standard ones.

I'm looking to spend around £30 - which i am fully aware will only get me the bottom end stuff, but what do you suggest?

While down at halfrauds today getting my HU fitted, i had a play with the different speakers they have there and the JBl ones they had sounded really good - better than anything else in the rough price range (even though halfrauds had the cheek to want £60 for them)

They can be had here for £30 so are an option.

Other than that i dont really know what im looking for.

I appologise for the essay i ramble on like hell, but the long and short is - can anyone suggest a decent pair of 13cm speakers for around £30?

If you want after market speakers comps are the way forward they are much better sounding and if you amp them they will improve 10 times

Like i said i dont want a major setup and i dont want to bother with components. I just want a decent set of coaxials for around £30. I dont have the skill or knowledge to wire up an amp and cant really justify the costs for a decent component set up.

Well thats up to you, but its really not hard at all.

If you were just gonna have a simpe intall just go for coaxails, TBH there won't be much difference over OEM speakers

One thing to remeber is that the under dash tweeters will still be wired up if u replace the door speakers with coaxils. I had a set up like this for a while before I got comps and the treble was a bit on the high side.

Don't be so sure.

Standard speaker are very effiecent (sp?) when running of small powers Ie H/U most after market speakers are meant to be amped

If the head unit he fitted puts out decent power he will definatly get an imporvment with some new speakers? My Sony CDX-7500 sounded gash with the standard speakers. I don't run an amp and it sounds much much better with uprated speakers.

I understand that componants and amps and all that jazz would make it sound wayy better, and that +-£30 isnt very much but theres no point in me funnelling £100 into the car for just a pair of speakers - thats an 1/8th of its value!

Id rather save the £80 i could spend on a new set of tyres for the fornt to make sure it passes its MOT.

I haven't found that. After market speakers become real bright and harsh on the ears when just amped by a h/u. Unless you turn the treble down on the h/u.

Speakers sound much much with a external amp

Fair play mate. I dunno if anyone has any great recomendations for £30 speakers. I reckon u should just go for some. Most of the people who read the ice section are spending £100's. I had troubles getting recomendations for speakers with a budget of £100!!! Everyone always says u should get jut that bit better than u can afford.

U might pick up soem decent second hand ones for £30 but then there is the risk of them being guff.

I guess it is all personal opinion Chrome. Personal experiance I found that the standard speakers just buzzed all the time. But each to there own.

Hi Tom, just fitted those jbl ones your on about in in the back doors of my clio, so i suppose im best placed to answer your question! Theyre definitely a BIG improvement and certainly worth the money, if you have a nosey on this forum theres a free delivery code for caraudiodirect as well, so mine cost £30 delivered (halfords there 60!) You wont regret changing them, theyre a nice cheap little upgrade.

Like you im not wanting to go mad on ice, although i am seriously considering changing my front factory fitted components (which have to be said arent too bad at all!) with some new ones (although have no idea how to - any guides/suggestions are welcome!)
