which would sound better (sub/volume related)

ok, imagine 2 subs, same power rating same amp.

a) 8" with a recc. 0.3 cubic feet sealed enclosure
a) 10" with a recc. 0.75 cubic feet sealed enclosure

now which would sound better

a) 8" in a 0.3 cubic feet sealed enclosure
b) 10" in a 0.5 cubic feet sealed enclosure (smaller than rec.)
c) 8" in a 0.5 cubic feet sealed enclosure (bigger than recc.)

oh, please don't mention talkaudio as I'm not signing up to another forum :)

i reckon b - 10".. as 8" is smalller and will not kick out as much sound or bass.

edit: although i would personally recommend getting a 12".. its what ive got and if you run the right wattage through it, its a nice clean sound. good all rounder really.. although you do loose boot space.

how negatively would the smaller enclosure really affect the subwoofer, ie. running it in a smaller then recommended enclosure ?

Well putting a sub in a smaller space obviousely creates more bass as the sound is contained - so more vibration

I think that providing the box that you put it in is strong (MDF box) that doesnt vibrate it should sound fine, (reason being if the box is smaller more vibration inside, if box shakes it will sound c*ap)

There is no reason why it shouldnt sound good.

putting it in a smaller box, that is rigid enough should in theory give you less bass (not as low) but give you a tighter faster sounding bass - better response, less boom.

really.. i thought it would give more.. as there is less area fro the air to move in.. so when it does get outside the box you would get a lower sound....?

ok, and perhaps some wadding or the stuff you put under capet to line the enclosure with ?

to give an idea this is the box at the moment just need to decide where to cut it down to
