isit from the headunit or the speakers?

where is you amp earthed to?
what headunit is it? pioneer?
what rca leads are you running?

Its an alt wine. Can be caused by quite a few things.... hmm i'm not to sure how to fix it tbh as i've never had the problem... sure someone will be along, if not head over to talkaudio.co.uk and someone will help out:)

some headunits have poor earths so it could be that.
some rca leads are shite so could be that.
your amp earth might be poor.

i can only remeber vaigly on how to trace it but do a search for a guy called wallop on here and look at his posts and you will find your answer in there.

you have to have the engine on and remove the rca leads at the amp then at the headunit and you can see what part is causing the whine.

The symptoms you describe are indicative of a poorly earthed amplifier....Ground loop induced by amplifier earthing through two seperate return paths, (one is the amp earth, the second is the head unit earth via the RCA leads)....

The amplifier should be earthed to the cars chassis, (boot floor), the earth site should be cleaned back to bare metal and secured good & tight....Once the connection has been tested as OK you should treat the area against any possible future corrosion....

cheers wallop the guy who did it earthed it under the rear seats hmm il have a wee look 2mora when ive got a spare monent dont wanna go crawling around in the dark

FYI, i eartherd using one of the bolts for the silly bar things in the boot, just infront of rear seats, think its called iso-fix. You can get a good earth off that. Just sand back paint as said.

I've go no idea where under the seat he eartherd to, unless it was the bolt that holds the seat in, not the best place.

same here, i use the same earth point on the isofix bar for both my amps and i dont have any issues, std everwhere else in terms of big three and alt etc
