Try elephant and getting your own policy with your mother as a second driver (often slashes the quote).

Tbh though, its not gonna be cheap at 18 and with no no claims. Youre probably looking at £2k+.

Id stick with the 1.2 and build up some no claims. Its no good being on your mothers insurance forever or youll never have any no claims.

you should kiss your ass goodbye! LOL

try elephant.co.uk or tesco they are quite good but you might struggle to get someone to insure you at 18 on a 172

18

I have problems at 24 !

Keep on dreaming unless you have access to a motor traders policy but then that wont be valid abroad at a guess.

I got my 182 at 18. Im now 19 and pay 2.4k to be a nominated driver on my dads insurance. I think thats with Zenith (but done via Peoples Choice).

It really is a lot, but worth it I think :)

Thinking of getting a 100 quid banger to leave it in the driveway insured under my name so the no claims starts to trickle in...

You have to do it like (most of) the rest of us.

Progression in level of performance of your cars and build up of no claims.

I had to drive my mams 1.2 until 22. So what. At least I had wheels. At least you have your own car.

Yeah but think about what % of people (especially males) stuff there first cars. If so many stuff there first (underpowered) car then give someone a 172 or 182 then I can see why the insurance is so much.

Chances of not stuffing it must be slimmer than a slim thing thats on a diet.

Yeah tell me about it. I know exactly how you feel. Im in favour of introducing a "pay as you drive" insurance system, where you get charged based on your mileage.

Either that or make a law forcing people to pay out third party damage costs if it is their fault, and allowing them to have the option of NOT having insurance for the damage to their own car - a system which works in several other countries.

Insurance should be exactly what it means - not a burden!

Surely thats third party fire and theft (or just third party) which we have already?

im with you mate,, why dont the 90yr olds with 20% vison get insured on an enzo for 30quid a month,

Yes but not only can you not get third party only for anything worth more than around 7k (at this age anyway), but Im saying this shouldnt be something you pay every year. It should be paid directly to the third party - which, to be honest, is what a lot of people do anyway to prevent their premiums from going up!

What kind of blackmail is that?? Were gonna force you to have insurance which you are afraid to use in case youll have to pay more just to keep your car on the road!
