Who should pay for it

Hey people, just need your opinion please. I got my 182 last saturday from a main renault dealer, the car came with a 1 year parts and labour warranty. After takeing a look around the car aftera quick drive, i noticed that it had been hit from behind at some point, and that the exhaust doesnt hang correctly. The rear bumper isnt flush with the n/s/r arch, and there are marks on the rear bumper. I have reported this today and have been told to ring monday and book it in. Now are gonna say to me " well sir, you bought the car in this condition" or will they help me out?

cheers

Just quote the Sale of Goods Act at them. By law they have to put it right, so make sure they do!

Hopefully they will sort it but why did you buy the car without taking a detaiuled look?

thats a good point mate, its just i was so thrilled that i found a 182 exactly how i wanted (well almost, it doesnt have cup suspension) that i guess i kinda missed it.

No, it isn't. If you buy a car from a dealer, you are protected by the Sale of Goods Act which requires the car to be of satisfactory quality. If it isn't, and you take it back within a reasonable amount of time they are legally required to put any defects right.

More details here:

However, if you buy a car privately, you have virtually no protection once the money's changed hands - it IS sold as seen. If it fell to bits afterwards, you'd have to sue the seller.

not sold as seen unless its says clearly sold as seen and you dont get a warrenty with sold as seen sales, its purely a way of getting rid of cars not worth fixing up to sell. not the case with toonarmy,s car

get it back to the dealer and get it checked, if it is the case and its not been repaired properly under the sales and supply of goods you are entitled to your money back.

dont think it has been repaired mate. There are marks on the rear bumper where it has been hit, and in the pic, it shows that the bumper doesnt fit correctly.

cheers

i would do an hpi check, try contact last owner as well to get as much information as possible, my old boy bought a megane years ago brand new which arnold clark crashed into side of garage when moving it into workshop, they replaced driver door, front wing, 6 months later my dad who isnt car minded notes rust on screws, then notes panels differnt colour, taken into local bodyshop and stripped and full of extent of damage discovered, arnold clark refused to accept it was their fault, old boy left car in dealers and walked away stating if he didnt have full refund in 7 days would raise proceedings, call next day from dealers with full admission and replacement ordered for him

Do not listen to people on the internet. No-one can tell if a chasis is bent from a picture like the one you have posted above, yet this often does not stop people spouting absolute s**t. You see it all the time. I posted something about my car years ago not long after I bought it and someone said something like "yeh your bottom end sounds fucked mate", well 3 years on and 20k I am still waiting for it to stop working.

As Racing Blue has said, you are protected by law in this case so personally I would get a HPI check and possibly take the car to a local body shop and ask their opinion. If the car is HPI clean then I am not sure what you could go back to the dealer about. However, if something has happened you may be able to negotiate some money back or possibly a different model or refund. For all you know the previous owner may have reversed into a bollard or something which caused him to get a new one and of no real consequence.

I have had a quick scan but have seen no mention of what dealership you used?

If the car was sold with scrathc from a bump, bumper out alligment and a droopy exhaust as it does not affect the operation of the car in anyway whatsoever then a garage does not have to put it right, if the damage wasnt there when you looked at it and signed the order form then when you came to collect it it had that damage then that a different ball game.
We had a lady who collected a 07 astra off me last week and she didnt spot a nasty scratch which was why the price was reduced, but she came into to see us at the garage nice and polite but we could tell she hadnt spotted the scratch in the 1st place, but as she and her family are valued customers we got the scratch repaired however i was well within my rights not to but that not good for business.

It is city motors in Bristol mate. Im not to fussed about the exhausts, cus i can do that myself, but the bumper, that has kinda taken the shine off my 182:dapprove:

I know exactly what you mean i run a garage but i been caught out on some of my own purchases, garage excuse is that it is a used car so you have to expect some marks, try the garage, whats the worst they can say is no if no joy bite the bullet and get it repaired thenyou will be happier with car.

It's not down to the customer to spot it - if the price was lower because it had a nasty scratch, that should have been made very clear to her.

If she wasn't told, she had every right to make sure you repaired it. I'd have thought it wasn't good for business that you don't tell people when there is damage to the cars you're selling..:S

A used car has to be in a 'satisfactory condition'.

thing is, can you prove it wasnt done after it was bought?........

tbh, i reckon a fiddle with the exhaust mounts, and a quick adjustment of the x2 10mm on the rear bumper would easy sort that. Check the boot floor under the carpet if your worried about it having it up the rear. Looks fine to me tbh!!!

I used to work at the place ''TOONARMY'' is on about and the MD is as soft as shite.

It will either be repaired, another car offered, or a refund given.
