why clay if you plan to srp??

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Finnaly got myself an autoglym bag:cool: , went to argos & got the whole kit for £39.99, £10 cheaper than halfords:S , any way, it came with a great little guide book which i had a gd read of & after flicking through it they reckon the best way to get your car looking spanking shiny you should srp to clean the surface then apply egp for a deep shine, so my question is why clay if ur going to srp followed by egp, as they say srp will remove all the nasty stuff?? only thing i'm thinking is claying will remove alot more crap then srp, so why does ag guide not say any thing about claying:S

Clay will get rid of the stuff washing alone won't do, while afaik srp is just polish.

nope no chance - just cleans the paint.
SRP will probably do the same eventually but would take ages plus cost lots of money

Add a wax to your routine. Apply after the EGP.

^ Yup that's right :)

Wash
Clay
Rinse & dry
Paint clean/Polish
Glaze (optional)
Seal (optional)
Wax

Then wash/dry/wax until you need to re-polish again

Clay won't really change the appearance, but remove bonded on contaminants such as bugs and tar that polishing or washing alone won't.

Definitely worth doing once in a while - I try to go for every 6 months, polishing every few months and EGP about once a month with a P21s top up every time I wash, approx 2/4times a month.

As for above, I'd say sealing is more important than wax. It's the sealant that means you can just wash, dry and top up again the next time.

Good shout :)

After washing see if the paint feels rough or smooth - especially the roof and bonnet as these are the areas that pick up most of the bonded on contamination. You should be able to feel it with your hands, put using your hand in a clean sandwich type plastic bag will make it easier. If so it is well worth claying.
