Why i consider myself lucky to be alive

Please bare in mind the last time i drove this car was for a 300 mile 4 hour trip to drive it home after buying it.

When PM'ing the last owner about the car he stated there had been a slight oil leak. At the time i asked if the oil was black or golden but i got no answer to this. I then asked him to check the engine and gearbox for leaks. I was told no more oil had come from the car and not to worry.

Today i got the car over my pit to take the exhaust off as it also broke on the way home as its totally rotten.

I think i found the source of the ''mystery'' oil leak.

How i made it home i have no idea. All i know is that i'm f**king luckly. I hate to think what would have happened if it seized on the motorway. No wonder no more oil came out. There is none! As you can see this isn't a recent thing. The box is bone dry!

I then gave it a slight poke to see what state the internals were in......

This is what fell out.

I'm lost for words.

Whines a little when not under load but no worse than normal. Thats what i can't understand.

As for not seeing it, it was behind the Engine cover but i'd expect him to remove that when looking for a leak......

i had a slight leak when one of my seals went on my box but it was gradual, car felt crap then so cant imagine how terrible urs must be
