Why i consider myself lucky to be alive

As hard as it may be i would be tempted to speak with the guy you had bought it off and see about getting some money back..... theres no way he could not have seen that hole in the gearbox

I'd be asking for some cash towards if I was you... PM him or call if you have his number

Sold as seen if its a private purchase, should have got it checked over before you bought it.

Bad news that is.

Similar thing happened to me when I bought a Clio from Brum.

Moral of the story? There is none. Just hard luck. :(

In all fairness i fail to see why it's kieran's fault if he didn't realise.

If he knew then yes he's literally satan,

however the hole must have started as a crack, the crack might have wept a little whilst he owned the car and he might not have seen the crack. Then that chunk may have fallen out whilst you were driving, taking the rest of the oil with it.

Just playing devil's advocate before we all go on a witch hunt.

The best thing would be for keiran to show his face and tell us just how big that 3.1 litre puddle was.

^ I agree, from the other thread sound like Waitey thrashed it back, could have just made it worse than a small crack that was already there.

The box and diff are bone dry in side. And have been of a while.

God knows why it wasn't whining.

I'll speak to last owner but i can't see me getting anything for it. It was cheap and he was desperate to sell. Maybe there was a reason lol.

I've been thinking that. We stuck to a happy 80-90 on the way home. So just over 3k rpm all the way home. As soon as we got back it was washed and put into storage. Haven't even had a chance to thrash the damn thing. Probably for the best.

Could hardly have had it checked it over in the car park where i picked it up. Would have a been a jack the car up, and take lower engine covers off. I don't know of anyone who does that lol

that's awful. how's that failed? presumably (as it's still 'OK' internally), it's been smacked?

fail to see how anyone who owned that could not have realised the casing was that badly damaged before deciding to sell. it's described as an 'oil leak' but, come on, it must have dumped it all after whatever went wrong

is there oil spattered under the car? if not, that'd suggest that it did dump it all in one go

would be properly p*ssed myself

ed. scrub that; missed the last photo; does obv. look like internal failure (d'uh/me). seems surprising it still worked

surely its just as easy for the person who bought the car not to see it as it was for the lad who sold it,like someone already said it may have just been a crack at the time, seems like people are being a bit unfair

80-90 is touching and over 4k mate :p

Unless it's got some kind of strange ratios in the box (or is vastly different to my ph2)

Least it didn't make anything else go bang!

Can tie length of string to you so that if you get lost inside the engine you can trace your way back out if you like stevey?

I would never buy a car without having a good luck under neath. At least checking for broken CV boots etc. Praps removing the lower gearbox cover is a little excessive, but then I would want to know where it was leaking from.

needless to say, you've been had. hope you get some doller back mate.

The sellers got over 2k posts so is obviously on here quite a lot. i'm sure he's not sold this knowing its that bad

why hasn't he posted in here yet then?
He saw the witch hunt and s**t him self. he posted in the other thread yesterday. I'd be slightly worried if there were lots of people saying go round and punch him in the nads
