Why is Sky no longer showing C4 and 5 on it's Freeview service!?!

Haven't used my Sky box for months, but my TV aerial is knackered, so plugged the Sky back in, just with freeview card inserted, and I've not got C4 or 5! Called some freeview service number and it's just a recorded message telling me what I've already found out...

Anyone know why?

Could try doing auto retune on all the channels? Sorted out mine when ITV2 disappeared.

Mine still work

They are removing it soon and you have to pay for the sky card if you want the free channels

lol! My mate had exactly the same problem this weekend. We found the answer on digitalspy.com

Just plug in the box to the dish and mains etc with the card in the box.

Wait between 2 and 72 hours and my magic they will reappear! You wont get e4 or more 4. Channel 4 should come on after a couple of hours but 5/US/Life took a couple of days. The channels are encoded as they are coming off a sat that services other things than just sky telly.

Dont worry they will come back. You'll need to be patient.

If sly have turned your card off as its been reported stolen/damaged your fucked and have to buy a new freesat card.

Sounds to me as though you're using a card that once had an active subscription?

That isn't actually a freeview card and after a while, you will lose those channels as they're encrypted, why this is i don't know.

Best bet is to phone the freeview number for sky and order a new card for £20

i dont have the number to hand mate, sorry.

Aye, it's an old subscription card, which used to be considered the same as freesat.

Cards now cost £45, which is why Sky can be buggered if they think I'm paying that... would rather just bite the bullet and get the phone, broadband and basic package for £21 or whatever.

F**king hate sky....can't get any freeview where I am or even normal TV so forced to sign up....had nothing but problems

Just switch the box on with the old subscription card in and wait! You dont need a new card it just takes time for the card to update if its been switched off for a long period of time.

The card wont have changed in anyway while it's not been connected to a dish supply...it can't!

In my experience they work for a few months and then expire. i have 6 ex subscription cards sat here and all have gradually lost their ability to decode the encrypted channels...i was gonna flog 'em too =D

A freeview card from sky is 100% £20 with 3 years support..

I don't work for sky but i do sub contract from them

I gave my old dish, box and old subscription card to a mate. We put it up on his house, got everything working bar channel 4/5. When I cancelled my old sky subs they told me that the card would continue to work as a freesat card so I'd still get ch 4/5. Because the box haddnt been switched on since October it need to be left on for upto 72 hours. Providing you've got the card thats blue one with the yellow house on it it should continue to work. Sky do it apparently so if you want to go back they dont need to send a new card/equipment if you want to start your subs again.

I'll let you know if I get my mate ringing me in a couple of months time saying that he's lost those channels as no doubt the cheep b*****d will!

this is what sky did to me too, i cancelled my subscription and they told me i didn't have to get a freesat caqrd as they would convert mine into one until i decided i wanted to come back and that how its been since.

I still get annoyed that i can't get e4 through it as its a free channel, annoying!

Cheers to all who said it would just sort itself out over a few days.. all fine now! Don't knwo how long it will last though, as the phone number I was given definitely said they were stopping showing C4 and 5 free...
