Advertised for 12k, not used anymore, locked away and immaculate! Only 8,162 miles. Am i asking too much?

Seems very reasonable but i think you may have to wipe another 1000 off it to stir interest.

A quick look on PH reveals a pattern of almost un-beleviable depreciation on the 197's in every spec and form.

The arrival of the 200 might be a good or bad thing

Best of luck!

Too much sorry imo. I know its like top spec and all but i can't see someone wanting to pay 12k when theres so many examples around 10k or lower. I just don't see it warranting the extra. Don't take it personally, I would love your car. I'm just saying it as I see it.

it is worth 10k imo. maybe a bit less maybe a bit more. mine is worth around 7k-7.5k imo. mine is nov 2006 with 31k.

why would anyone buy a year old one (well pretty much year old)when a basic 197 can be had for little more than you are asking?

sorry ot be harsh but i think this is the reality. yours may be a nice example, as it look clean etc so may be worth a wee bit more. but tbh, the average buyer wouldnt know the difference really.

Maybe because we're in the middle of a recession and people are being layed off by the thousands.

People just don't want to be buying an expensive car at this time and the people who don't have any financial worries would just buy a new one for another £2K.

costs too much, 56 plates are around the 8ish mark... the untrained eye would most likely see it as this one costs more due to its age and different colour and think ''nice colour, too much though'' and walk away rather that knowing the specific spec etc, what have you been offered so far?

I would agree, too much! At the bargain prices 172/182s can be had for, someones not likely to auction a kidney to buy a 197

Your in between 2 markets.

Your boy racer/trackday nut will want the cup pack & recaros.

The 'i don't know or care what i drive bunch' won't want the boy racer wing

It's an 08/08 so can't be compared with 06 motors, still got 2 yrs warranty & AA + updated ecu etc.

£11K is where it's at for you to shift it.

i think i would rather get a trophy and have 5-6k in the bank for things like fried chicken, b**ches and asbo`s

I'd say 10.5 maximus.

1*2 price isnt really relevant but it's still a bit too much.

Well if someones in the market for a hothatch its certainly relevant? :S
If you want a 197, but a 182 can be had significantly cheaper which are you going to go for?
Isnt like they are worlds apart in performance!

Didn't realise it didn't have cup pack or racaro's.

Its still a great car but a no go for me without those options tbh.

The 197 and 1*2 are miles apart though!!!

I have a plan? Sell the laguna powered bodykitted mk2 and keep the 197? you know it makes sense................:rasp:

but they are two completely different cars, as mentioned ''i dont know what i drive bunch'' if they are looking for a 197 they probably wouldnt blink at a 182

only reason i mentioned 56plates is because the 2year age gap to the ''i dont know bunch'' imo wont justify slapping on an extra 5-6k

Yeah but its a different car? If you had that money to spend i dont see why downgrading would be an option? No warrenty etc. I no i wouldnt. If you want a 197 then thats the car you go for, just search for the best price and spec.

Dont really think the 182's are really part of the picture tbh.

It's not relevant.

Yes it is, I was tossing up buying either...could have afforded either but didn't fancy spending £12k for a used 197.

But for this guy's specific situation it's not going to help, sounds like it's over priced...slash the price or it's not going anywhere. The 200 has just been announced as well, not going to do you any favours.

To all the people who have said it's not relevant, look at what jordan172 said...

i think i would rather get a trophy and have 5-6k in the bank

The 182 is the 197's predecessor, therefore it is totally relevant!
Especially if someone has 172/182 and wants to "upgrade" to a 197, if the value of their car has totally diminished, they are going to think twice about doing it arent they?
It's just like when peugeot launched the 106 gti and citroen launched the saxo vts, they were essentially the same car, but citroen sold more as the saxo was considerably cheaper.
If you're in the market to buy a car and you don't consider cars of similar spec to the one you have in mind, you're a f*cking idiot!
It's plain logic, if someone else can offer something that is similar at a significantly lower price, you would consider it if you had any reasoning power in your brain!

It's relevant in the same way that due to the credit crunch more expensive cars have come down in price and are in the same price range as the OP's 197. If you have £12k to spend are you going to spend it on a car that was worth £13k six months ago, or a car that was worth £18k six months ago?

I love the way people talk like the 172/182 are worlds apart! It's a 3 door clio with a 2.0 16V in the front!

id agree if you was comparing a 182 and a 172 which are very similiar, but the 182 and 197 are two different cars, performance isnt everything.

  Megane R26
Surely you buy to a budget and age, not a spec?

I wasn't really looking at 182's when I got my 197, I was looking at other cars in its price bracket...

Well spec has to come into it at some point!

Otherwise you would be thinking:

" I could have a R27 that's a year old for £12,000. Oh but wait I could have a brand new vw polo 1.4 for the same money, it's newer! I'll have that please!"
