Will elephant.co.uk screw me???

  330Ci (Fail)Sport
Are elephant.co.uk reliable? And good when it comes to claiming or will the be a pain in the arse?

Elephant.co.uk:

£610 with £350 excess

£550 with £400 excess

Rac:

£650 with £370 excess

Both identical policies, where's the catch?

Anyone better for young drivers? (20yrs, 2 NCB, SP30, 2 accidents (1 fault, clio 1.4rt)

Adrian Flux overquote me EVERY year. Tesco, Virgin, AA, confused.com all ridiculous. Anyone else to try??

Just tried Bell, £930 with £550 excess! Admiral and Diamond (they do men too!) use same system as Elephant and wanted more! Also Budget are not budget at all!

Will I be ok if I go with elephant?

Might try privilege. Will go with elephant if thats cheapest then and sounds like they'll be ok. cheers guys

Da

  Less
privilege are good if standard and 4yrs NCB+ but personally Admiral/Elephant always come out ontop for modded/high risk with young drivers.

Well I might just stick with elephant then, no-one has come close at all. Only thing is, they wanted an extra £60 for lowering and putting on alloys which is decent but they won't pay out for the springs or wheels, just give me market value of car if stolen, this usual for insurance companies?

No point in paying an extra £60 if they won't cover them

Well I'm not looking to spend money on alloys and springs tbh but if I did they would prob be cheap. If I don't tell them tho, it will void my insurance. Only paying cos more desireable to theifs (which to me is a gd reason not to bother).

Try HIC, they cover none-power affecting mods for free iirc.

By far the best for me.

Like I say, they told me years ago that they don't charge for non-power affecting mods.

You have to do an agreed valuation with them if your car is worth more than £1k apparently. Don't really know what it means, but definitely worth speaking to them, they do a discount for being a member of an owners club too, and limited mileage policies etc.

They seem pretty good. Will give try a quote online and a call tomorrow. Cheers Deeg.

No worries mate, best of luck.

Like I said, were by far the best for me for the last few years, were half what other people wanted when I was 19 with points and a claim.

They work on comission, so get the persons name when they give you a quote so that you can ask them for them when / if you accept the quote.

And when they give you the final price, ask if there is anything more they can do, and you will sign up straight away etc.

But don't lie and say you have a better quote, 'cos they can check your details, lol.

whats all this compulsary and voluntary excesses? Its been just one for years and now they all seem to be doing 2 lots of excess payments? do all insurers do that now?

I think it's more for young drivers, just so that you can lower the premium a bit. And like it says, it's voluntary.

Sure one company said to me that the compulsary excess was £300, but if I raised it to £500, the premium would reduce 10% or something.

Sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Just finalized elephant.co.uk payment as they were cheapes, saved a tenner cos had put in wrong date for dad's points, so £541 for 12 months fully comp with £400 excess, inc temp car and legal services (never go without that after last accident!).

Most companies make young drivers have a compulsory excess due to less experience and higher risk. Usually £250 for under 21s, and £100/150 for 21-24/25. Add voluntary excess onto that to lower quote and looking at £400. Its sad world for us young guns. What was worse was that putting my 1st accident (I was at fault) onto my policy didn't change my premium BUT putting my 2nd accident (not my fault, all expenses recovered) increased premium by £50. What a joke! They wouldn't budge on it, but still much cheaper than anyone else.

Special thank to my additional drivers (mum and dad) for lowering my quote by nearly £200 ;)
