Williams Alarm

  williamsclio.co.uk/forum

Hi all.

Spent all afternoon treating my williams to some service items - A new Green Cotton air filter, new spark plugs, HT leads, Dissy cap and rotor arm. I even cleaned some off the muck off my engine bay. Well impressed !

Went out for a test drive & how does it repay me.....With the alarm siren sounding off.

The alarm has now got a life of its own, and randomly goes off for 30 seconds when im driving. I have to stop the car and arm/disarm the alarm to shut it up. 120db is Loud !

Has anyone got any tips on whats wrong ?

hi northy_com

Cheers Andy - Im off out in a min to try it.

Impressed with the filter - sharper throttle response and more eager to rev. But that could be because the old one was filthy as ell.

As you will know there is nack all space in the Williams engine bay, and to change the air filter youll need to remove the battery from the car to make space to withdraw the housing. Wait to you try to change the oil filter. :D

lol mate i bet thats embaressing ! (spelling) my valvers horn starts beeping every now n again lol usually when im sat at traffic lights haha , so everyones like staring at me as if to say WTF are u tooting at ?

Nope that hasnt worked. :(

But i do know that all my sensors - Bonnet, tailgate, doors, and interior motion sensors work. So that has eliminated them from my list.

Just discovered that once the car is fully armed - the yellow panic button wont trigger the siren anymore.

Ive used the master alarm key to turn - on, off, on off to reset and its still the same.

One question i do have for Andy - If the alarm is turned on, and the battery disonnected, should the alarm sound ? cos mine doesnt.

the answer is yes it should. its battery back up sounds like the battery is knacked in the alarm im not sure but i think you can replace them

Yep, All that does is cancel the self arming of the imobaliser circuit after 30 seconds.

Still having troubles with the siren, it’s great for attracting the ladys attention when cruising past ;)

Put a fair few miles on it too, travelling to so called specialists to have a look. Bring it in they say, But its proved hard to find ones who can repair alarms, not just fit them. Why can’t they tell you that on the phone? Muppets!

My last resort, bar having a new alarm installed, is removing the siren & brain out from the car, and posting it to Essex for a cobra approved repair centre to test and repair. (ERS, Chadwell Heith, Romford) God knows how much delivery from Huddersfield will be to them.

Tomorrow, I’m going to paralyse the Williams into a big paperweight!

  ex Clio 172 owner :(

Could be that, I wrecked the siren in my old RT cleaning that area. Had to cut it off and buy a new siren from Maplins.

You need a specialist to see the whole car mate IMO. I had a similar problem on my old 16V and it turned out to be a blown fuse deep in the electrical system behind the dashboard.

All these replays now its gone

Cleaned it locally (with white sprits,no gunk left), so no water has been near the siren. Given up with specialists - they arent intrested in fault finding. Plus I dont trust em.

As for a switch, yep thought of that one, but its registered on my insurance, And I dont want problems if I ever have to cliam.

Think its the battery back-up. They are 8yrs old now, and may not be holding a charge.

See what happens when it comes back !

Cheers All.

If you have any other problems mate let me know as ive got the number for cobras UK technical help-line...

Also i can get the air filter off without removing the battery... u must ave big hands or summit, he he

if you strip down the siren, disconnect the batterys for 10 mins and then rebuil/refit it that sometimes cures siren problems.was an official repair from cobra at one time.

Cheers Jay - i stripped down the siren, had a good poke round and rebuilt it, before i took it out - just to double check everything. Disconnected the battery numerous times and turned on/off the siren but the problem is still there.

I had this two days ago after returning from holiday and having a stereo fitted. It would go off every 30 seconds for about a minute, then go off again for apparently no reason. All it ended up being was the twisty battery cover not being on tight enough!

It better not be that
They should have got it today, so im expecting the call on monday to say alls well.

i meant disconnect the internal siren batterys.is that what you did?

Yep. A 10min job to get in there. But on its inside the actual siren unit on my alarm. Plugs straight into the PCB.

The batterys were a bit furry at the edges - but as theyve been in 8 years - I recon there probally not holding a charge anymore. And thats why the siren goes off. I tryed the battery back up mode on the alarm and it didnt work. Hopefully its all connected pal.

from what you say it sounds like the siren is losing its battery feed(from the vehicle battery) or internal siren fault(back up batteries etc).does the wiring to the siren look ok?

  williamsclio.co.uk/forum

Spot on. Looked at all the wire joins and no corrosion on dry joints.

Should hopefully getting the call today so fingers crossed.
