Williams help

  Williams Clio
Just drove my car home from work and when pulling off in any gear the car judders violently making the gear stick move and causing a banging noise. My engine mounts have been worn for awhile as i have always had quite a lot of geat stick moving when applying and coming off the accelerator.

It also doesnt feel right when cornering, its hard to keep it turned into a constant corner. Is this a possible broken engine mount or gearbox mount, driveshaft. clutch or something else?

once in gear and up to speed it accelerates fine and smoothly its just when first applying the throttle when coming off the clutch.

Any suggestions? ive already got it up on axle stands and checked the wheel bearings at they seem fine not quite sure how to check the driveshafts and engine mounts??

dog bone mount is still in place but there is a lot of movement. Surely this wouldnt cause it to judders so violently? Also it doesnt seem to corner to well like the diff isnt working correctly any way of checking it with the car in the air?

it has an uprated clutch in it which bites pretty hard and when u release the cltuch quickly the car makes a banging noise always has done. Just the engine and transmission moving i think. But now when pulling away it does this several times even after i have realeased the clutch pedal.

Drove it round the block last night just to see if i could find out anything more. It does it at low speeds in any gear when very little throttle is applied it doesnt do it all the time though. Its worst when just setting off from a stand still. Any ideas?

my 16v did this, it also did it when you lifted off the throttle and went back on the power again. The dog bone mount was reasonably worn but i didnt think that could have been the only problem. Replaced it and now its perfect.

I used a dog bone mount from an early 172 which is the same size and seemed to have less air gaps and harder rubber (an so stiffer?). Either the early 172 mount is better or i had a really cheap one on my car.

the later 172/182 mounts are different though

yeah im sure its more seriouse than just the dog bone mount but im going to replace it to start with.

If that doesnt solve it anyone know of a good renault specialist around the oxford area who might be able to help find the problem and possibly fix it?

Hello mate.

Closest is GDI in cambridge iirc.

I'm no specialist but have done a lot of work on my 16v and I'm in Oxford if you want somebody else to cast an eye over it!

cheers pat might need someone to take a look at it. Just moving houses at the moment so wont be doing anything to it for awhile. Might have leave it sitting on the driveway for sometime until i can afford to fix it. It always brakes down at the most inconvient time.

My parents live in hinkley so might see if i can get the car down to hill power. Not sure it will make the journey though.

My old RT went the exact same way when my diff was going, esp when turning at low speeds it was hard to keep under control as well, kept pulling to the left iirc was all over the place almost managed to drive the 50 odd miles home but it had less and less drive when i was moving off from lights etc it eventually thumped and banged and wouldnt move :( thank god i had breakdown cover lol

hopefully its just somthing silly and not your diff and you get it sorted :)
