Williams radiator

May be a stupid question but does the radiator on the Williams collect air like a normal radiator, ie. do you need to use the bleed screw on the top to bleed air out every now and then, or does the air alway accumulate in the expansion tank? And how do you get the bleed screw open? Mine wont budge.

You need a central heating key !! Go to B&Q they are about £1 or less !! Yes youll need to bleed it as the air can stop water flow and cause undercooling !!

Theres also a bleed on the heater matrix !! open the rad bleed valve, open the expansion tank and blow into it !! This will force any air out, put the screw back in when coolant comes out !!

once the system has been filled and bled you dont need to keep opening the bleed screw to release air as there wont be any in there.the bleed screw should unscrew a couple of turns then pull it out(it doesnt fully pull out on some radiators just enough to allow air out)

Ok what is the easiest way to bleed it? Can someone give me a simple step by step explanation. Do i need to do the bleed screw on the heater matrix too? If so how do i do it? I have a central heating key, are you joking that i need this? And are you joking about blowing into the expansion tank?

you open all bleed screws and fill the expansion bottle up with coolant.close the bleed screws when coolant flows out of them.run the engine for a few minutes(until its getting warm) with the expansion bottle cap off then refit the cap and run it up to fan temp to ensure the cooling fan cuts in.

king, i just undo the rad screw and let the air come out(until the water comes out) screw it back up, then run the car with the expansion tank cap off and wait for the heater fan to cut in. Job done, my heater works more than fine its like a furnace!Remember do not over fill the expansion tank, the level when cold should be between min and max, shame you dont live near london as i would show you how to do it!

he earth begins to spin the other way.

if too much pressure builds up you enter a cycle where too much pressure blows the cap, water excapes, when it cools it draws air in, it overheats etc etc.

to much coolant will pop the relief valve in the expansion bottle cap.level on max when engine is cold is ok.
