Williams spares anyone

I was thinking about setting up some kind of buying group. My idea was to get a number of Williams owners / enthusuasts together to buy a Williams (either written off or not) and using the parts for our own cars. Whatever is left is sold to make back some of the money that was spent. Valver owners would be welcome too. Each member contributes a certain amount based on the parts they want. After this is totalled up the shortfall (if there is one) is split between all the members of the group. Money from selling left overs goes into a kitty and after the car is gone the money is split between the contibuting members. Judging by the price of some written off williams and left hand drive cars, the total is very acheivable largely due to the money that can be recouped from the engine and gearbox ect.

The club / group would be official and some kind of contract would be drawn up so that there was a legal record of who paid what and who owned what. It would even be possible to get an account set up so that money could only be moved around with members permission (ie all have to sign). It would also be a majority desision about which car was purchased.

I am seriously considering it, so if anyone is interested let me know. The objectibve of being a member would simply be to get cheap parts for our cars and help other enthusiast do the same. I would be prepared to buy left hand drive cars and written off cars but would never destroy a working RHD williams for parts. Williams in Europe seem a bit cheaper too.

I know this sort of thing has probably been done before, ive been thinking about it for a long time. It seems that everyone has things they need for their cars and this seems a logical solution to those problems. Any feedback appreciated.

Definately could work but its getting loads of people to part with cash before seeing parts that will hold it back.. noone is trusting or has enough faith in anything!!!!

Thats why a contract would be given to say what yoiu WILL own when the car is bought. Money would be paid into an account that would hold the money, and nobody could touch it unless everyone agreed to it, including the guy who paid it. Trust would be needed, but in the end if someone doesnt pay they dont get the part, as simple as that. And no parts are promised . Parts are only guaranteed when payment is made. There would also be a clause to say that the part has to be in reasonable condition, ie if you pay for a tailgate and the car that is bought had a dent in it, you dont have to have it. Lots of things need thinking through, my plan is far from perfect, but as you say Riplash, it COULD work.

And what if two or more people in this group that brought the car wanted the same part? They both would legally own the car (if you had a contract), so who would get the part(s)?

Good idea but the owners would also want access to it so youd also need to agree to where its going to be kept and who is going to pay for that, or has space in their garage?!

You dont enter the group till you put your name down for a part (ie pay). So the first car bought is a first come first served basis. After one car is bought the group is dispanded until another car is sourced / enough interest is shown to search for another and then the same applies. Basically, those ppl with the balls to stump up the cash get first pick. Everyone who comes in late gets what is left, which seems perfectly reasonable.

As for where the car is kept seems a detail to be elucidated. As youve paid for your part you can come and get it as soon as the car is bought, as you legally own it (unless of course that part is needed to transport the car to where it is going) eg the engine.

Its not a perfect system, and a certain element of trust is needed.

If Rajs car for example went for 1200. Only need 6 people to stump up 200 each and there is almost a whole williams of parts to use for the same cost as having your front shocks replaced. Even less if someone with a valver paid say 600 quid for the engine / gearbox etc

Three in the group could replace their spare wheel with an alloy for example, for virtually nothing. Some guy with a valver could kit out the interior with williams carpets, seats, dials and seatbelts for peanuts. Some guy might need a new fog light, tailgate and steering wheel. Dont have to do many sums to work out your kitting your existing williams out for alot less money that buying individually. Everyone has stuff that needs replacing.

  williams and trophy

hehe iv seen williams engines go for 1200

fukkin ell whoever bought that must be really desperate, or stupid lol

megane 2.0 s can be had for a 1/2 that an its the same block lol

would be intrested in this plan tho, an i know a few others that probably would be as well.

just a few thingds tho.........wheres it gunna be stored/stripped?

whos gunna strip it?

and how you gunna equal the price paid-parts acquired ratio out?

like u say 1600 for willy, 8 ppl 200 each........id b well pissed off if 1 of the syndicate paid 200 for eng/box while all i got is an arch liner lol

  williams and trophy

lol

dunno why..........like i said the megane is the same an it only sells for 1/2 that, or bore and stroke an 1800 for about the same to get same results too.lol

some ppl have more money than sense lol

Ok this would be the plan (subject to someone having a better idea, which i am always open to)

Those who want a part from a williams put there name down for that part and pay for it. (these prices are just as an example) So:

Bloke a a wants a gearbox and engine - he pays £900

Bloke b wants a tailgate and a drivers door - he puts down £100

Bloke c wants an air box - he puts down £20

Bloke d wants the interior - he puts down £200

Total £1220. We then all agree on a car to buy a car with relevant parts. Say the car cost £1220. The parts are then distributed to the owners. The rest of the car is then sold as spares. All the money is then distributed in ratio to the amount spent on the car. So the most money goes to the guy who spent 900 quid on the engine for example. Can work out the exact percentages that people paid and the payback from the extra is representative of the original investement. So basically someone who invests little say £5 for a gear nob gets very little of the spare cash.

If the car costs less than the money collected from the investors, some of the money will be returned (the difference) to the investors in the same ratio as above, so the guy buying the engine gets the most back, and the guy buying a wheel nut gets little back, again in an percentage that reflects the original investment.

As to where the car is broken, i am open to ideas.

Mate id be willing to put the vehicles up for a few weeks while they are broken down!!

Id even offer to break them down too for ya!!

Obviously id wanna be a member of the club anyway so id be helping myself and others!!

Heres what i have availiable throu work!!

http://server4.uploadit.org/files2/180104-Image003.jpg

We have 4 bays at a cost of £5 per week IIRC and we can use them for up to 4 weeks at a time! The we have to re book them!!

Id be willing to do the breaking if someone else could sort out getting them to me and someone else say arranging the courier for deliveries!!

throu the door at the end is all the tools i could ever need! Well almost anyway!!

Like we discussed Rob on MSN i want the driveshafts, hubs and wishbones also want the passenger door too!!

Ill put up cash for tailgate, steering column / rack (depending on age of car), gear knob, airbox, stick that hold open the bonnet and some other little bits,

Mine is a phase 1 willy 1.

yeah ill put the cash up front too!

Forgot to mention that bit!

Anyone else want any spare bits!!

Will almost definately have a engine, gear box, Ecu, Interior, Dials etc

Will all be good prices if we can get this to work out!!

I am a relatively new member, but this sounds like a very good idea, saving money and making more parts available.

I would be interested in buying a spare gearbox and tailgate.

Out of interest there was a LHD Williams on ebay recently that went for less than a RHD equivalent.

  Willy2

the thing is you ahve a time limit on how quick the car has to be broken if we pay rent on the storage, i may be interested, where are you based smokey?

Yeah but at the end of the day you can take the engine, box, interior, running gear, suspension, doors, tailgate all off in a good day!!

I had to strip my williams interior out at the scrappy n that only took 2 1/2 hours, dash n all!!

Its just storing the bits untill they are delivered!

Im just out side of Huntingdon!!

Workshop is at RAF Wyton!

At the moment i am living in Norfolk. I used to live in Alconbury just by the section of road where the A1M passes over the village. There is a pub called the Mill which is next to my old house opposite a garage.

Check out the one on ebay at the moment.

Damaged Clio Williams 2 . Only 74K miles.

Description below.

Damaged clio williams for sale classed as a category d. The car has had three owners from new and appears to have been well maintained pre accident. The alloy wheels have no kerb marks on them, the interior has no rips or tears and the engine is spotless. I am selling the car complete, although I might break if I do not get my reserve. If you have any questions please email me and viewing can be arranged before the auction closes. No timewasters thanks I have put a realistic reserve on the car. I reserve the right to close the auction early as the car is advertised elsewhere. Thanks for looking.

I will email him and ask if he will break.

His reserve is set at £1600.

I emailed him and he replied " I will break the car if the bids do not reach the reserve".

I know its difficult to tell, but what do you think is a realistic price for the car, with respect to breaking??

If you want a profit, then i wouldnt pay more than 1200 ish. I only payed 2500 for my fully working fat boy, so 1600 for a shagged one seems a bit steep.

  williams and trophy

maximum i would pay .....i mean very maximum

for a williams that is a write off is 1500........thats more than they are worth really...................IMO

  Clio 172 cup

Thats 3 of us that want the bloody tailgate then!

I REALLY want a bonnet too, but its rare to find a written off willy without the bonnet have a few dints or totally bent up to f**k

Why dont we decide who wants what, and how much they are willing to spend.
Then add it up and see if the total exceeds £1600.

The total will add up to more than £1600, but thats still over the odds for what youre getting.. confirmed by someone who has actually been to see the car too!!
