Williams tyre suggestions

im going to get some new rubber for the willy and im tempted to go for a wider, flater tyre than the standard 185/55.

195/50s and 195/45s are suitable by TUV standards although im hesitant if it will upset the handling!

if anyone has any thoughts or experiance of using different spec itd be muchly appreciated ;)
 


there has been quite a few "debates" on this - some say that the OE spec 185/55s are the only thing you should use as the car was designed with these. TBH though i wouldnt think itd make that much difference!

I have the willy suspension setup on my valver and im running 195/50s -handling is spot on and itd be unlikely to be much better using 185/55s. Certainly not that much better to warrant the extra ££s.....
 


yeah his willy goes well with em on i canv ouch for that takes twice aslong to get anywhere tho as he keeps going round roundabouts a few times ;)
 


iv jus swapped the 185/55/15 michy hx pilots for 195/50s michy exaltos, have tried 195/50s in pirellis bbut they jus made the car tramline to fuk....sidewalls far too hard

the exaltos ar spot on, not harsh over the bumps n grip like a b*****d wet or dry....bit pricy in 185/55 fitment tho
 


Got 195/50/15s Michelin Primacy on mine..

Grips well.. but the Williams seems to have a lot more grip than my 1.2 did anyway.. so cant compare tyres, hehe.
 


I have 195/50 Toyo Proxes at the moment, got them cheap and think they do the job pretty well, not especially good in the wet though.
 


How I miss his considered opinion!;)

All bow down to the 185/55 Michelin Pilots any other tyre will RUIN the legendary williams handling! LOL
 


20K! I cant think of anyone whod pay that for a williams - number 002 or not....

You could find a decent example and practically replace EVERYTHING for less! :confused:
 


Ive got 195/45s on the williams wheels and it seems to handle quite well!

I think U33dbs right unless your colin mccrae your not gonna notice that much difference it will end up more down to the make of the tyre and the compound!

Mine Had Toyo Proxies (195 x 50) on it when i bough it. They were good in the dry, but a bit lacing in the wet. although not really a fair test because the tyres were nearly bald!

Replaced them with Eagle F1s (195 x 50) and have found them good wet or dry. tbh i kept with the 195s for £££ reasons. next time i want to try 185s. see if they are worth the extra ££
 


Id defo go for 185 on stock suspension from my experiance, altho on lowered suspension id imagine wider tyres help grip even more.
 


Its been ragged silly for most of its miles too. Mike from driven certainly wasnt shy with it.

And in EVO the lad wasnt hanging about fto take most of the 3 wheeler shots.
 


hmmmm, well thanks for the advice peeps although i still dont have a clue!

its on the 185/55 mich pilots that i bought it with at the mo but i need to get it sorted this week as its getting less grip when im having a tear up and im unfortunatly not mature enough to be able to drive civilised when ive got someone giving me the slightest temptation in joining them for a blast :confused:

think im gonna try some 195/50 kumho 712s to see how they feel as i can get them for £16 a tyre at the mo. that way if theyre worse it wont kill me to ditch them for something else!

ill keep everyone posted as to the differences though.

fukin ell that lad really is a dreamer..........but then, its worth wot anyone is willing to pay for it.........personally cant see it even being worth 8k
 


I changed from the 185/55 Michs to the 195/50 Toyos.

For the money I cant complain - as Ive had (we I guess I dont have too) to type on many occasions:

I found the 195s far better and more grippy, harder and stable for normal driving - motorways, dual carrageways etc.

I found the 185s far better on back roads - I lost a lot of top speed on the bumpy back roads switching to the 195s as they are too harsh.

I guess its down to what you want and need - I would like to return the car to the standard tyres as they carried more speed where the car excels - but then I dont spend much time on backroads driving like a lunatic so does it really matter?

If I hadnt driven my favourite road before and after the tyre change I would never have noticed the 10+mph difference and the 195s "feel" faster even if in certain circumstances are slower. The car gets more unsettled at a lower speed on the 195s.

I have contemplated 195/55s for the best of both worlds LOL:confused:
