Just in case anyone who owns an imported Clio which doesn't have window etching, here's a kit you can buy to do it yourself:

It costs £24.95 for the kit and means your car would be registered on the ISR (International Security Register) which I'm sure is the same as original etching that comes on UK Clios. IMO it can't do any harm having it.
I've got a kit but been too lazy to actually use it so far...
