Window regulator fixing advice

Not Clio related but thought it would be best in here.
I have a Suzuki Swift and the spring keeps popping off the mechanism, I assume this is normally a press fit but it no longer stops in.
I have tried drilling a hole through and I was going to tap it and put a bolt and washer on to stop it pulling back out but it is only about 1mm thick.
My other option is to weld it to the mechanism but I can not do that until I get back to work on Monday.
Any advice is welcome.

Flare the sides using a hammer and a punch so that it grips against itself?

Use a very very small screw to use its head to stop it coming back through. I've done similar with a door handle.

I could not get a screw in as there is not enough metal sticking up, I was going to pein the top over but I have given up now so just going to wait until Monday and weld it on.
