windows xp serial code

I ahve currently have xp home edition on my computer and i need to re format my comp. My mate has given me his xp proffesional cd to reformat but will me home edition serial code work? The reason I ask is becuase I need it validated so that I can get service pack 2.

No mate, it won't work. You'll need an XP home CD. Or you could install Pro on the 30 day trial, then once it's running MS will allow you to pay to register it online. No idea how expensive it is though. But you can turn a hooky copy into a legit one now on the MS website.

For the home user there is no advantage with using pro really.

It should be saved on a sector of your hard drive then, which you can access once you've started the format? Its a while since I did mine though so I'm a little sketchy on the details of the process...
