Well ive been messing around the other day with the 16v Dials that i bought a week ago, firstly i took them all apart to see what was what.
I then changed the mileage to 00000 for a laugh and looked at ways of getting the needles off and other bits undone.
After i got the rev counter and speedo undone i started to look at ways of making the orange backing and filters clear/white. After thinking about it i bought some clear plastic perspex and started cutting and making the plastic backings.
Overall ive not done a bad job but there not perfect, i.e. the mileage holes arent straight, and the perspex cracked in a few places. Luckly thanks to someone on williamsclio.co.uk ive got hold of some genuine renault plastic backings which are clear so as soon as ive got them i can fit them back together.
However i noticed one big problem, even if i put the clear backings onto the dials they would still glow a slight orange/beige colour when the lights are on, this is because the actual dials have a orange filter inside them which is just homo so to get around this ive designed and printed my own dials.
Ive just finished them and printed them off onto an asetate sheet, when the backings arrive ill be sticking these over them with a white background underneath. Below are pictures of what ive done.
Firstly the Speedo and the Petrol gauge is the same as a standard 16v one.
Secondly the Rev counter has been changed, instead of going up in tens i.e. 10, 20, 30 40, 50 etc... ive changed it to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.. Ive also changed the redline bit red for a sportier look.
Thridly the temp gauge is the same as standard however ive added a red bit for Hot and a blue bit for Cold.
I also have changed the white needles to red ones, which should glow red aswell.
I am also going to change the oil gauges in the same way and change the external temp display to red instead of orange.
Here is a picture of them against the original dials.
What you lot think?
More pics to follow when hooked up and working.
