wiring amp + sub - HELP

hi, i first must apologise if this has been posted before, if it has show me the link - i cant get on with all this search buggery!

i want my sub in my car. i know how to do it apart from the running of the power lead from battery to amp. is there a grommet in place already in which i can feed the lead through? or will i have to drill one?

also, can i hide the amp wiring kit along the plastic trim that goes along the passenger side?

its just that ive heard of horror stories about cars catching fire etc. the last 2 times i have had a sub in cars i got the local ICE store to do it for me; but they charge £60 and id like to try and save some cash. any help would be much appreciated.

If its a Mk1 then there is a HUGE gromet on the passengers side bulkhead that feeds through to under the glove box. If its a Mk2 then there is one under the power steering resviour.

Hope this helps dave

Ps. remember to run the power cables on the oposite side to the RCAs to stop interferance.

cool thanks guys. its a mark1 clio.

so in my speak (sorry) Phonos down drivers side, remote, power leads going down passenger side?

i was really worried about the grommet thing as like i said ive heard horror stories of cars catching fire if its done wrong and the only reason i can think this happens is when peopel dont use grommets, the wire casing chafes away exposing the copper wire and boom!

do i have to keep the fuse holder as close to the battery as possible?

Are you sure, i mean i searched for ages and never found one. I ended up drilling a hole and placing my own grommet.....because ive just had a look right now, i STILL cant see it, maybe im not looking in the right place:cry:
[Edit] oh yeh, i ran my REM cable along with my RCA cable on the drivers side, and the Power cable was run on the passengers side. So is the REM and RCA cable ok to be next to each other?

Very sure ill go take a pic! lol. That should be fine its just the power cabel and the RCA (phonos) that have to be run away from each other.

I unscrewed the lock catch for the boot (where the boot closes onto), put it over that and then screwed it back in again - easy and effective.

Thats not the best place TBH. Put it on the rear seat belt mounts. they bolt straight to the chassis. Give it a clean with some sand paper first to get a good earth.

wa hey! i fitted it meself, well chuffed. thanks for the advice dave, much appreciated.

my gormmet had a plastic piece so i drilled that and put the grommet i got with the kit on it - sweet proper job, feed wiring through each sides (plastic interior and earthed to the middle seat belt buckles.

any one who wants help, give us a shout. my install took 2 days, proper tidy and everything, ill post pix.
