wiring kit question

currently have a 500watt wiring kit from my old 500watt amp but have just updated it all and made a boot install. Have 2 x 15inch JBL GT-4 subs and have an amp on order . . my dad says theres no point upgrading the wiring kit as it isnt worth it and that higher wattage wiring kits dont do anymore and are just there to make more money, how true is this? im gettin a 880w rms amp with 3500max so i think im going to upgrade the wiring whatever. Have seen some 2000watt wiring kits going cheap on ebay and was wondering if a. this would be sufficient and b. is it worth the upgrade?

thanks.

you cant really judge a power kit by max power, what gauage power cable is it should probably 8awg, if it doesnt say whats its diameter.

If your running more power through a cable. its going to need a larger diamter (if your at the limit of you cable now)

If you can afford it id go for this
