Without Cup for 2 Weeks now! - Jack Point

Car has been in Renault Edinburgh for over 2 weeks now, while they all debate on the issue that I have left them with. Bent Jacking points. Along with other paint problems, I have been advised by Trading Standards to reject the car (which I have), under the sale of goods act. The Vehical Inspectorate are involved and are investagating these problems which arise with Clios.

The correct repair for this problem would be to cut out the sills and weld in new ones, however, I have said that this will result in a serious loss in value of the car (10 months old), if this is done. Trading Standards tell me I am well within my rights to reject car. We are awaiting the response from Renault UK.

Sorry to hear that mate. I cant see how Renault could refuse to replace the car.

It will be worth it in the end, another brand new cup!

The one that I own is minted! A new one would just mean no miles!

If anybody out there has probs with there Clios, speak to the Vehical Inspectorate as they are keen to know all the facts.

Cuppy,

Looking for the 2 points on each side of the car to straight up and down with the hole facing out. Check for any signs of bending of these points. Let me know how you get on.

Mac - Speak to Marc (regional organiser for Scotland person) who IIRC had exactly the same problem with his and was in Renault Edinburgh to get fixed. Cant remember what the outcome was though...

Yeah ....this is really bad. tried jacking mine up yesterday after Reno had straightened them up and they started bending again!!! not suprised tho as they are well weak now as all they done was bend them back out.

Any contacts for the Inspectorate??? I want to get this sorted ASAP!!!

Cant clean me wheel arches anymore......and they are really dirty!!!

Yip jacking up by Renault made them bend! I am at work the now, but will post the number for the VI later tonight when I get home.

Does anyone know the correct procedure for jacking the Clio, there is no obvious spot under the car to place a trolley jack, no way I would ever use the standard jack on the sill points unless in an emergency. So where do they jack when you have tyres done etc?

What made them bend in the first place? Just jacking them up?
My dad has a Clio in Spain and he says his jack utillises the hole in the sill....but all the ones ive seen in the UK are the cup type that locate along the sill and cause it to bend.

When I took it into Renault for them to look at it they said I was using the wrong jack....until they checked a couple of others in the garage and they backed down.

The one that they supply you with locates onto the jacking point on the sill - its a Renault problem if the Renault jack bends the Renault designed jacking point.

2 weeks to bend a bit of metal back. They wil have fun ragging your car abotu though. What renault in edinburgh? The one near sighthill or the other side?

I am over in edinburgh tomorrow fitting Sonejis head, no one cares do they? Fine Ill leave! lol

Jack points on the sills are for changing a wheel only, you would not want to crawl under the car whilst its on the Reno jack. Be intrested to see where the likes of Kwik Fit position their trolley jacks under a Clio.

For those interested, the number to call is for the Vehical Inspectorate who have told me that they are investigating the fact that jacking points are bending under load.

Give them a buzz to let them your safety issues and they will be glad to help! Reno will sit up and take better notice if you mention that they are involved! Tel: 0117 954 3200.
