would i be stupid to swap my 2004 1.2 16v dynamique with 22k on the clock for a 2001 51 1.6 16v dynamique with 51k on the clock?

i want something with a bit more poke!

yes you would be stupid imo ............. keeps your own a bit longer , then go for a newer car with bigger engine .

well its advertised for £4300 trade

but im not sure of my car is cat c'd/cat d'd??

i got hit in the rear at some lights, had to have new rear bumper and the boot floor remoulded etc, what would that class it as, how much difference will this make to my cars value?
if it helps there was £1300 worth of damage to it.

Yeah if it was a straight swap you would be insane!

The difference in price between 1.2s and 1.6s in reality is very small indeed!

I have recently done a lot of searching and I have found the difference to be 10% tops.

Sam

^^really, seems to me like the 04 plate 1.6's are a lot more expensive than a 1.2!

Pepsi I can't look now but I will PM you a car for sale on eBay - a 1.6 in black.

Alternatively seach my posts and you will find I made thread titled Just bought this - now having second thoughts or something like that.

I had an offer of 3300 accepted it was a 52 plate 1.6 dynamique in black.

Sam

I'd keep yours.

You know your car and you're taking a bit of a risk going backwards age wise and milage wise. You'll have more things to replace on a 51k car like timing belt for starters.

I'd take kullys advice and wait a bit and go for a newer car.

what about swapping for a 1.8 SRi astra, 52 plate on 3 door, obviously ill be putting money on top depending how they value my car?

I wasn't looking quite as new as 04 I was looking more at 02-52-03 plates but I thought the difference was about 10%.

Check out eBay - I found that is a s**t market for sellers and providing you do your checks correctly should be able to get one much cheaper than autotrader or piston heads

Sam

actually the 1.8 sri astras aren't that bad ...... you need to decide what car you want before you put the feelers out ...... ?

well i thought about a 1.6 clio because they are only about £100 extra to insure when i renew over my 1.2.

the astra is about £200-£250 more, and i suppose its a bigger car, maybe not as fast though but i love the looks.

anyone got any views on the damage to my car?

you sure?!i would have thought the clio would be faster personally, the clio had 110ish bhp, and the astra 125 i think, but the astra is bigger.

might go and see the astra in a bit, the garage is literally 2 seconds from my house, see if its open!

i wouldnt of thought it would be much on my insurance policy at the minute, it renews in June i think

i would save your money until you can get somting like a 172/182

well im only 18, and by the time i can insure one of them ill be able to insure some other cars which i would personally prefer, DC5 or focus rs as examples.

ive got about 18 months until im fully qualified and thats when ill get a real car!

You're right might have been the 2.0 l sri i had a go in a couple of years ago , very nice it was too .......

the turbo?

they did a 1.8, 2.2 and a 2.0 turbo.

Will I like my 1.6 Clio :). As this was my first car from passin my test about 3 years ago. I don't know the difference, but the 1.6 is nippy and I get a few people look at me when I drive due to the fact that there's not many 1.6's around. Mines only done 8.5k miles so far lol.

The 1.6 16v Clio is around 9.3s - 60mph.

yeah they are rare, lad at work has got one and the difference between my 1.2 and his 1.6, to me, is immense!

dont like leather!

not a massive fan of the front lights on the ph1's to be honest.

They make a 2.0 non turbo SRi my friend but you'll find that its hardly any quicker than the 1.8....
