Found a 51 plate 172, in silver, completly standard with 12 months mot for £1800 but its got 114,000 miles on the clock... should i stay well clear or do you think it would be ok? looks tidy enough though

Mine's on 85k and haven't had any major problems at all. my last one was on just over 90k miles. Providing it's been well maintained it's not a problem i'd say

Depends on how you want to drive it...

If you will be hooning around everywhere...then you'll probably put too much mileage on. If you rarely drive, it could be a bargain.

Just make sure that there is some proof that the car is not a dog. My cup had done just shy of 100K and never missed a beat!

They are good cars to drive, that I'm sure you'll probably tot up the mileage! I know I did!

This one looks quite nice with slightly less mileage! http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?p=6151330#post6151330

  Black 172 PH2
As long as its been looked after and serviced properly it should be good.
Theres some people on here with higher mileage i think.

service history and a good few receipts will assist in making your mind up.

a spirited 45min test drive also.

No service book and no history of cambelt/aux belt kit being done would put me off a 30,000 miler let alone a 114,000 mile one!

iv never really had a problem in buyin high milage cars, have you been to see it?

I've bought 5 year old cars with over 200k on them. All with full history though.

If this clio needs the full kit (lets assume it does) then thats £500. Pluss £1800 to buy it, thats a cheap car turning into an expensive one!

hanvt been to see it as its a 3 hour drive.. going to have a good think about it tomorrow and see what else i can find i think

iv had my clio 5 years now and the only problem i have had with my little beast is the driveshaft, which has gone again lol but i was told it was because my car is lowered on coilovers and my car has covered 103000 miles. im driving a Kalos 1.2 atm and when i take the clio for a little spin it allways buts a smile on my face :)

I would....but I could do the jobs needed for peanuts. 1800 is too much for a car that's had servicing neglected so badly though, the seller deserves to lose anouther £500 for being a careless t**t IMO

It wouldn't bother me, as long as it had a full service history.

My mk2 172 is now on 115k, and that runs very well, still on the original clutch, box too.

i understand that. remember, autotrader, freeads, trade-it,parkers,ebay,piston heads etc etc etc the list goes on....

i have been looking for a while, in the end i went for a ph1 as it was 10 mins from where i worked rather than travellering 3 hours to see a maybe bag of poo....:rasp:

Owning a car on 115k after having it from low miles is different though. I'd buy yours because I know the history and its been well looked after. Wouldn't touch another 172 on those miles though unless it had stacks of receipts and service history.
