Would you buy this 172?

  Iceberg 172
Hey guys,

2003 reg,

78k miles,

cambelt done at 60k (going to find out whether it was done at a specialist and how many years ago).

Full stamped service history (I don't think he has receipts)

This is his third 172 (he loves them apparently, but bought a renault megane coupe as he has a bigger commute now)

He is a Motorsport Engineer.

No rust or marks apart from a 2cm dent in the drivers door that hasn't cracked the paint and should pop out.

Asking £1800?

reasonable price or get him down?

Thanks
Dan

Yeah was gonna say, if it were a Cup they're always going for between about £1,500-2,000 but a standard one should be cheaper.

If the cambelt was done properly that worth £1800 all day long IMO.

Baring in mind they are just stamps in the service book, and if the cambelt was done at a specialist I think It's a fair price! It has no tax and needs mot and service, so how shall I haggle him down a bit?

If that was my car, I would be pushing for £2.1k with Tax MOT and a recent service, so I dont think he will move much. You may be able to get him down to £1700 i reckon.

£2.1k for that?

Bought a good condition Monaco '53 plate 87k FSH for £1300, belts done 2 years ago (15k). Had 1 months tax and 9 months MOT, only thing Ive done to it is replaced the discs all round as they were lipped and replaced steering wheel for Snappy's one.

I could get £2500 for a good 172/172 cup.

On the flip side, I could (and just have!) go out and buy a rough 182 for £500.

It's all relative, and there's no such thing as a bargain! If something's cheap, it's because it needs money spending on it.

I forgot how this place works - offer him a tube of Smarties, that ought to do it

The fact if has no tax or MOT would put me off, he's got to have receipts for the bits, even if he has done it himself.

If it is mint apart from what you said, get him to sort the tax etc & then buy it.

General rule imo, if something's cheap, it's cheap for a reason.

If he's a Motorsport engineer, he'll know what condition the cars in and should have no issue putting a new mot on it.

Cambelt was done april 2010 at 54k miles, at KG auto Services....

Would you walk away now? I don't think they're a specialist

I wouldn't get a car at MOT time from my experience - bought my clio with 1 month left, £300 to get it through the MOT. And now the coilpacks just gone! Evil 1.2
