Looks awesome, I'd personally go for the V8 engine over the rotary.
But I suppose if your one of these people that gets hard-ons over jap spec wheelnuts then it probably isn't for you.
LOLOCAUST. Ahhh.
Or... Mazda spent a great deal of money and time, perfecting the front-midship layout, only for some dumb colonial to plonk a dirty great lump of pushrod pig-iron in the front. Net result being a 94/6 weight split.![]()
Dont criticise others if you yourself don't know much about the LS7 block you're speculating about.
It isn't that much heavier than a 13B. A triple rotor block would actually be heavier than the LS7 V8. Also due to its compact size you can get it mounted quite far back so it does not upset the distribution very much at all.
The LS7 makes a lot of sense as a swap when you think about it. Don't compare it to the older Chevy blocks which are very heavy. The LS7 is rather different. Plus that torque would make it an ace car to drive. 470ft lbs at just over 4000rpm...and it revs to 7000rpm as standard. Well it is set at 7000rpm the actual block is good for 8000rpm. Just cams etc limit top end power so it was set to 7000rpm.
Oh and also it might only have 505hp...but standard Z06 vettes with 505hp have clocked high 10's in the quarter. And they are heavier than the RX7's.
I supposed the only negative is if you are a Jap purist. However the V8 makes sense. Especially in a street driven car. As the rotoaries aren't well known for their torque. Probably gets similar MPG too and uses less oil.

The V8 is all alloy.
The centre of the turrets are only level with the 2nd row of cylinders so it as far forward as the rotary is.
MY mate picked up his this week, silver UK car, slammed on coilovers with black standard wheels, 450bhp with a huge single turbo!
His new drift car, he's only 20
Pays the same as I'm about to pay to insure my 182 as well![]()
I read some of this thread's argument. Then just saw stars for about five minutes. Who's engine is made of Z06 what? And who's Cam when he's at home?
Stop talking in f**king code and tell me about pushrods!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Google it, ya honky!
lol Malice, how is the rebuild thing a "rumour". Its a widely known fact that if the car hasnt been looked after properly by a previous owner, then chances are its going to need an engine rebuild when the miles get a bit higher.
I'm going to have to pull you up on that one. I'm yet to see an engine that takes kindly to not being looked after properly.
Obviously. What I was trying to get at is that theyre a bit more delicate than a normal piston engine.
Obviously. What I was trying to get at is that, from what ive read and been told, theyre a bit more delicate than a normal piston engine. A 4 pot in a Paxo VTR, for example, has probably had a hard life but that doesnt mean it wont read 80k miles. Rotary engine, same situation and things might be different, as is my understanding.
Thank f**k for that. w**kel is apptly named, imo.
