WTF, Disc snapped, caliper in alloy

  don't
Ok

my mate now had my 1.8 8v rsi

1995

he was driving along, then the rear drivers wheel just locked up, he heard a loud bang just as it happened

I got there and his rear disc was snapped in two, then brake pads were all over the place, and the caliper was kind of jammed in his alloy spoke

A tow truck came out and said he thought the discs were probably weak and the caliper may have seized and caused it all

So I guess he needs new discs/pads, and a new caliper

wheres the best place to get a rear caliper drivers side, one site said it was £100, thats a fair bit of £££ 2nd hand would be fine

anyone ever seen this happen, the guy took the wheel off and tried to push the caliper etc back towards the car so that the wheel could turn but it wouldn't go back in enough

PM matbrown - he might have one depending what sort of caliper is on the RSi;s. If it's the same as a 16v/Williams, then he'll have one.. I get the feeling it is as the RSi is the only one with rear discs apart from the 16v/Williams.

He should get the alloy checked too, it would have taken a heavy impact if the caliper flew off and got wedged between the spokes while the car was in motion.

If a weak point had developed around one of the bolt holes on the disk then it could have started to crack and eventually would break in two if it was under enough stress...

Really bad luck tho :(

alloy didn't look too bad tbh, caught the back of a spoke and took a slight chunk out of it but nothing major

will have to check its not bent at all though

So far been quoted £40 for a used rear caliper, including delivery

I would get it ballenced just to be sure, that should tell you if the wheels ok. If anythings bent or buckled then its gonna be wonkey

hmmm, I think the 16v and the 8v use the same rear calipers

if so I've found one, anyone know if they are deffinately the same

apparently it needs a new rear sub axel aswell

what the hells that, cost wise??

any idea's, I'm guessing its just the main bit around there that holds it all together
