X Reg 172 - Cambelt info help

Hi

I have a 2001 x plate Clio 172 , 40 odd thousand miles .

It has full service history but none of the belts have ever been changed , i take it is it due (overdue) a cambelt service ?

It has started to make a slight hissing noise , which doesnt seem to effect anything but after a wild goose chase with being told it was the power steering fluid run out , im thinking this may be belt related too ?

Also Renault so i hear charge about £700 for a cambelt , is this right ? can i trust a local bod to do it cheaper , or i have heard of www.nationalvehicleservicing.com , can i trust them .

Hi

you don't mention where in the uk you are, a specialist will be cheaper than renault (plenty of good specialists on here, so I guess one will be local to you)

I'd be worried about driving the car tbh, as the cambelt was due when the car was five years old (or 72k, but you've reached five years first)

The aux belt should also have been done by now too, so you'll need to get that done too.

5 years or 72k for a belt, your lucky that it hasn't gone by now.

I think Renault were something like £500 for the belts to be changed, unsure on the exact price though.

get the belts done s soon as possible - ive got a very similar car and belts are being done soon (£200.00 only for aux and cam - im a lucky chappy )

i have the same reg and same thing got mine dont by K-tec 380 all in, belt kit aux kit and laybour done in 3 hours as well

If you live in the south take it to Rentech asap if not take it there anyway!

where are rentech.im near gatwick airport and i need mine done along with a service. renault quoted me £700 for the cambelt and service was about 400 notes. cheeeky b******s want 90 for a coolant change. how bout that for a piss take

Rentech are in Portsmouth, I had a full service and belts changed, highly recommend them. Some members on here come all the way from up north to get a service done by them. Website is www.ren-tech.co.uk

Just for info as you may be interested , i got a quote today from Renault (Sutton Park Renault , Birmingham) for a Cam / Aux change £790 to include all parts labour vat etc , and if i want a major service at same time it another £350 quid . To do them both they tell me its a 9 hour job .

Im dragging my feet but to be honest all quotes i have from anywhere , its gonna cost roughly a grand for the belts and the service .

Just depends which one i trust most end of the day , based on what im reading on these forums.
