Xbox 360 broke after four months!!!

I'm slightly hacked off and was wondering if i can pick your brains on something, basically i've got the three red lights coming up...great.

I rang Xbox 360 support and got to someone offshore who said all they are willing to do is repair it

I bought the console from argos just over 4months ago, am i right in thinking that beacause it is within the 6month period that under the sales of good act, that i'm entitled to a replacment??

Can anyone help?

There was an item about this on Watchdog tonight, apparently you are not alone.
Might be worth looking at the BBC watchdog site, I didn't pay that much attention to it but I remember something about the three red lights "ring of death) I think they called it.

My mate sent his off for repair after getting the ring of doom, they just sent him a new one, was back within a week

no you are not entitled to a replacement ,well not exactly .

If they were to admit liability in that it was a manufacturing fault then yes ,however getting them to admit that would be a whole new board game .

Go to the retailer you purchased it from & see what their policy is ,you may be surprised ,if you have a receipt providing date of purchase ,they may well just replace it ... worst case scenerio is they echo what the manufacturer has said & send it for repair ,it's worth a try .

interesting .... it's a numbers thing however .... 250 people have reported this ,imagine how many have been sold in the UK alone out of a population of 60 million .... it's an electrical component at the end of the day ,parts do fail but it's a shitter if just out of warranty .

Well, this is what argos say

"If you've had the product for up to 1 year, we'll repair the product or, if that's not possible, give you a replacement or, if that's not possible, a refund.
This does not affect your statutory rights."

so from that i assume they will just want to send it off for repair too.

Agreed its a number thing, but it was 250 complaints to Watchdog.

I don't know what the stats are on Watchdog being the first port of call for a complaint about a consumer product, but I imagine its quite low.

What might be interesting is, given the exposure, how many complaints WD will receive between now and next Tuesday.

Consumer protection laws are quite adequate to deal with these sort of problems if people are firm and not put off by the normal responses we are all subjected to, when returning faulty goods.

I would still try going in to see them ,nothing ventured ,nothing gained .Things like this aren't always dealt with by the book ,it's a judgement call made by a manager also .

Tommorow, go to Argos/Dixons/Currys and buy a 360.

Go home, take it out of the box, swap the consoles over, take teh cables out of the plastics etc, then go back to said shop with your receipt and say it doesnt work. Say you dont want a replacement as you dont want the same to happen again!

Try bootin it up with out the hard drive see if you still get the ring if so its the 360 itself not the HDD (so if you take it for a replacement ask to keep it as it has all your saves on it they should be ok with it) and well if you only got it 4 months ago take it ack to argos and get a replacement

mine packed up after 6 months rang microsoft who said it needed replacing and asked me to post it,but asked as i still had receipt could it not go back to the shop,to which he gave me a reference number for Game who swapped it for me:approve:

I bought mine from Gamestatin, and they specifically gave me instructions when I bought it on what to do in the event of 3 red lights!

Can you imagine buying a car and them saying "Oh, but the way, the engine's sometime cut out suddenly, so just come back to us if it does".

I was aware the problem had been around for a while, my Son has an X box and has had problems, I was simply pointing out that Watchdog had featured it on their program.

My first one never worked properly - dodgy laser that only read discs half the time.

Second one lasted about 3 weeks before getting the 'ring of death'

Third one still works so far!

Build quality seems to be shocking on 360's. I would'nt be surprised if they were repairing and re-selling previously broken consoles.

Its a high end electrical product sold in a HUGE volume. The actual defect rate is normal for a high end piece of kit.

Just you only here of people who have had faulty ones. My first one died day after release, then the courier broke the other one LOL
