Xbox 360 video failure - fixable?

Seen over on xbox.com that there's quite a few video card failures.

Mine's out of its 3 year warranty as of end of 2007, and I finally get some time to properly start on GTA, fire it up and it gives plenty of sound, but no image...just lots of tiny little white dots.

Anyone know if this is fixable?

If not, am I best just picking up a new Arcade console and throwing my current hard-drive onto it?

Could try the towel trick, but TBH I'd get a new arcade/core, put all your bits on it and then sell the dud console - they still get quite good money on eBay so wouldn't cost you much overall

Ah, ok.

I keyed my details in online and it said it ran out at the end of 2007, I assumed that was the 3 years. Can't remember when I got it.

Not fixable then I guess.

I've never heard of seen of this problem tbh mate, obvious I know, but have you checked cables etc?

Other than that, leave it on & hope you get the three red lights is all I can suggest, other than taking it somewhere for an estimate - I'd imagine a new console would be more cost efficient tho!

I've tried different cables and a different TV.

There's a very long thread on xbox.com - but it seems that the warranty extension to 3 years ONLY applies if it fails with the red lights...not in my case where just the video card has failed.

W****rs.

So leaving it on is likely to give me the RROD?

considering they upgraded the 3 year warrenty to a 5 year warrenty on ALL xboxs, then i dont think it would have ran out.

Just phone em n tell the bitches.

say "Oi ho, sort my shizz out now"

yes the video issues are due to dry joints on the gpu.
they can be fixed if you can be arsed but could also probably be swapped under warranty with the same effort

  Better than yours. C*nt.

Correction - much easier to get it swapped.

"Hello, is that India? Yeah I need a new XBox 360, this one's borked."
