Xbox live connection trouble

Hey people, quite a few chaps on here have 'em so im hopin some one can help. Im tryin to connect the xbox360 to live and im wiring it though my laptop.

1) connected crossover cable from xbox to laptop
2) bridged connections between wireless and lan(xbox)
3) I told the xbox to obtain ip and other server info automaticly
4) test failed on ip address.

i did the same as step 2. but this time right clicked on "bridged connection" status, details and noted the ip and DNS, Gateway. I then entered these in manualy in the xbox and same thing happened. Failed on ip address.

I then did this..

1) connect crossover to laptop.
2) right click on lan, properties, then ticked "share internet through this connection" (this option is not available if i right click my wireless)
3) same., failed on ip

can any one help?

I had exactly the same problem as you as my Xbox360 was connected through my pc. I can't remember how I sorted it (it was ages ago) but I used a guide on the official xbox360 forums written by a member on there and manually configured all the addresses and then it worked.

cheers for the help.. i just got a massive ethernet cable and ran it to the wireless.. going to have to drill walls on sunday to get it neat.. but thanks amigo
