Xenon flicker

Hey guys,

I have an aftermarket 10000K HID kit that I fitted just after crimbo.

My problem is....when my car is not running my xenons are fine. As soon as I turn the engine on...FLICKERS OF DOOM!


Its annoying to say the least as it looks rubbish when im driving about or sitting at lights, its not so much of an "off-on" flicker, more of an "up-down" flicker. (But i dont thinks it my headlight level or anything).


Alternator maybe???

Anyone have any ideas?

(p.s. I think my battery is weak too)

never understood why youd change the std xenon lights on the 1*2's. they look perfect as they are and are defo bright enough! i even get flashed occasionally by some fools who think im using full beams!

guy even commented at work yesterday that my lights are bright.

I think it's the opposite, they are usually rated at 35W or some new ones at 50W, both still less than old halogen bulbs. The ballasts have a very high voltage output to start them up though.

Correctomondo.

Get a voltmeter on the battery when running see what its putting out

Also if they were cheap tat, its probably the ballasts at fault (a friends cheapy set does the same thing)

Anyway mate, as said it might be your Battery. Ive just installed 8000k's and am delighted with the result.

Where you based matey? You will need to get yourself along to the meets buddy

Wrong, if fitted correctly they will hardly use any power at all, i'd put my money on dodgy ballasts poor fitting somewhere.

as for xenons using more power i'd say they probably do use slightly more power than 55w halogen lamps

they are 35w lamps but losses in the ballast and ignitor (sp) probably means they use about 60w but produce alot more light

I changed the battery last night after work

and...

its alot better!!! not perfect, but better so im pretty happy for now but will need to look at the wiring tomorrow morn.


good points of new battery is my car wont die if i leave the lights on without it running :| lol

For future mate, dont use Halfrauds.

I wouldnt trust them to diagnose a lit petrol light tbh

Use euro car parts over in MaryHill mate, cheap as chips for parts!

As i said, got the battery at trade price, £37! 3 year warranty.

My mate works there
