Yet again my 172 is broke!

It seems my clio is trying to bankrupt me

Just took it out to the nurburgring, on the way home the car literally dies when stuck in trafic. Get it to the hard shoulder, RAC out who couldnt fix it so i got towed home taking 7 hours

Took it to my garage, fault reader is bringing up dodgy lambda sensor, they took a look and the sensor was burntout. Replaced the sensor and still nothing so they now think its something wrong with the wiring loom. Also the car absolutely stinks of burning

No renault specialist near me so now its got to go to a main dealer. Now im stuck, either be left with a massive renault bill or cut my losses and stick it on ebay as spares/repairs

Also worth mentioning the car runs when cold but cuts out when cold

Any advice on what to do or what the problem could be? Its an 03 plate on 86k

This is an F4R yes and not and IDE? I doubt an H02 sensor would cause a car to just die completely and not restart... We need more info please on the actual symptoms. Also, have they had the live data up and then seen what happens when its thrown in to crawling traffic scenarios?

no EGR

it'll be the MAP sensor

(Mick remeber that one you looked at outside my place? MAP was fucked)

Symptoms: stinks of burning, engine management on, the car runs ok when cold but as soon as it gets hot it spits and splutters and dies, the car restarts but unless you keep the revs very high its cuts out

Im not sure what you mean by live data?

I literally have no knowledge of these engines

Yeah I remember that... sorry I didn't really have time to dig at it with you. The MAP Sensor goes someway to explaining why the H02 was reporting a fault then as it would've been over fuelling like a biatch. Also demonstrates how unreliable generic ODB codes are for finding actual faults.

Burning sounds onimous tbh. Doubt this one is diagnosable over a forum, if it goes spares+repairs let me know.

Burning could be anything, I mean I had a pencil coil go on a 1.4 16v and it smelt of burning. The burning could be unburnt fuel going into the CAT for example.

Took it to a local garage who said needs a whole new cat and exhaust which is 'probably' causing the problem, could a dodgy cat really cause it to missfire etc??

The exhaust is at the end of its life and does need replacing really anyway, however i dont see how it could cause the missfire

  Whichever has fuel
Nor do i.

The cat being blocked/fcuked I can understand but the exhaust (unless its been stuffed with potatoes) won't have an effect.
