i think they only know what chrome wheels are across the pond.

I kno the engine will struggle, but its not like I ever go fast anyway, dontsee the point in risking my life to act cool going 50 in a 30.

Shaun, you after 19s?

I fear 50 in a 70 will be more of a problem for you!!!!

Well they show all the finished on the US website, might try and give TSW a call direct later, will let you know what they say.

Yeah i want 19's again, only after the wheels though as i've still got decent tyres on the Reflexs I have at the moment

Those wolfrace mantis are nice wheels, but you'd need some monster brakes to put behind them as they're so open between the spokes

rims should be for sale soon, just dont not what size to go for 18" or 19"

Konig Said I NEED a garenteed mag feature for free rims.

My old system was awesome 2 12's with 1000wrms each, Imk not getting 2 15s with 1500wrms each :)

What subs are these then as im looking for a enw system and wanting some mege bass??? What amps you going to be running them off aswell??

Kiza

Kiza, if yuo want some serious bass, check out Kickers SoloX range, they do square 10, 12 and 18 inch are some of the most powerful subs on the market at the moment. From memory, think the 18" runs something like 5,000w RMS

here he is again. i bet he's never even heard one before. PLEASE mate leave it to the experts!!!!!
I believe the guys down energized are doing a vibe install using the new Space subs. They look fecking great!!!! Probably worth popping down when they have finished and having a listen???? Think they are about 1000w rms, but they drop seriously low!!!!

and they dont sound that great either... square subs look great but dont perform as well as they should.

Never had any problems with mine, i've got the cheaper L7 sqaure subs and still hit 150db with very very high sound quality.

Firstly,

The square solo barics are very good subs, and they do actually perform better in some circumstances than a normal circular sub.

a 12" square sub has more surface area than a 12" circular sub would.

The idea behind making sound is by moving air at the right frequency. the more air you move the more sound you make. simple.

15" subs can go louder, as they can move more air.
12" Subs can some times match the performance of a 15" if they have a higher excursion (larger movement of the cone) and they will give a much tighter sounding bass.
10" subs tend to be a lot more punchy.

The sound of a sub is also based upon which kind of box it is enclosed in. There are loads of different types of box, such as sealed, vented, bandpass, horn etc. but i wont go into it here.

The size of a box, also determines how well a sub will perform. an install we are currently building down here utilises 2 vibe space subs. The 2 enclosures have been designed to have 2 slightly different box sizes.

The advantage of this is the first sub will have a lower cut off frequency of 30hz and will be at its loudest at around 50-60hz.

the second box will have a lower cut off of 40hz but will be loudest at around 100hz.

the reason behind doing this is :

we will get an overall sound from 33hz and will be loud upto 100hz. whereas if having the same size box we would have to choose one or the other.

we're sorry for hijacking crazy clios thread again, but it seems there a few people on here that need educating. and we hope to resolve arguments that are going off the topic of the work being carried out on crazy clios thread.

I went there yesterday, but didnt take any pictures. Its really coming along, all the damage work has been repaired, and the mods to the frontbumper have started. HOPE I get it back for Christmas.

www.talkaudio.co.uk is the best for audio.

Kickers are loud, no 2 ways about it, but I dont like their SQ. There is no quality with them. I'd prefer an SPL set up

I had 2 alpine Type X's runnning of 2 Alpine MRD M1001's That set up costs £1600 for 2 subs and 2 amps, but that was then, bet you can get it for around £1k now.

I was getting 8x PBX Xtreme 12" woofers and 2 Powerbass XA3000D Amplifers

The subs are £400 each, and the amplifiers are £1100 each but that would be 6200wrms. Hoever this isnt possible now ive had bodywork done as it would just flex the shell and crack the filler lol. 775wrms to each of the 8 subs :D I used to only be into ice and not styling, hence that was my choice.

Now I think Im going for to Powerbass Xtreme 15's, a Powerbass XA2000 And send 1000wrms to each 15" sub, In the boot. Then have my multi channel amps in the rear quarters, a few componants and a screen in each door card.

Howver Im skint now, So 2 12's with 500wrms to each are going in and a set of 6.5" comps

Hi guys.

There are a few nonsensical things that have been banded about in this thread that i think i need to clear up.

Firstly with regards to the notion that a "12 is less punchy than a 10" this is utter rubbish i am afraid.

The speed of a woofer is not determined by its cone area or indeed by Mms (moving mass) but by the BL product of the driver. This is the motor strength, or more importantly the force the magnet can excurt over the voice coils of the driver, which directly leads to the movement of the cone.

Secondly, whilst it is true that a square woofer would on paper have a larger Sd (cone area) than an equivalent sized round design, this is vastly missing the point. And that is one of suspension. You see for you to accurately have a reproduction of the AC waveform at the cone, you need the cone to move in a completely linear motion. There are 3 critical components here that allow this - the Spider, the Cone itself and the Surround.

On a conventional round woofer neither the Spider or the Surround has any particular pressure points as the load is spread evenly around all 360 degrees of the surface and therefore a linear and accurate reproduction of the AC signal being fed through the coils is easy to achieve.

With a Square coned woofer there are 4 points at which the surround builds pressure rapidly - the corners. This conspires to limit excursion as there is tremendous wastage involved in the driver trying to push past this inherent resistance. In addition it leads to the driver ending up with huge distortion figures, much akin as it goes to the Vibe subs which are far far cheaper.

Now obviously to minimise this you can run the Kickers ported which will limit this effect somewhat, however the subs are not really the best design in the world and do not tolerate low tuning (35hz or lower) and therefore tend to get very boomy.

Next thing i have to take issue with is why on earth you would want to reproduce 100hz loudly - nothing about about 55-60 hz is really what i would term "bass", hell you are not even allowed to burp at 80hz or higher in db Drag which isnt about music at all. Accordingly when we set up SQ installations we tend to cross the mids out at between 50 and 80hz with a 24db/octave slope (sometimes as low as 40hz 24db if they are in kicks) and bring the subs in about 50-63 hz. More than that you tend to get boomy, laggy bass which leaves people going "loud but sounds s**t".

Also i love this "SoloX are the best" rubbish people say. They are not. If you are talking about competitions then the DD9917 obliterates it. For Streetbass use there are plenty of more competent products that take more power and drop lower for longer - look at the Oz Power series or the RE XXX to name but 2.

Play nice ;)

wow i love it when people who know s**t **** me off, so what if a speaker is rated at 1000w?? it means absolutely nothing! if you want loud you need to consider the effieciency of the speaker and current dumping ability of the amplifier. Square subs CANNOT produce the same sound quality that a circular sub can, they can produce what most people would deam as good, but not me. There are very good reasons for this, but its pretty complicated and I dont have the patience to sit here and type out the reasons behind it. I speant many years working in the hi-fi trade, and learnt a hell of a lot while i was (and no, i dont mean i worked in comet/currys/dixons, i worked for a HIGHLY respected specialist hifi company, selling brands such as Meridian, Naim, Musical Fidelity, Arcam, Bowers and Wilikins, Dynaudio, Dynavector, Rel).

i may not know loads about engine tuning, but when it comes to quality sound reproduction, I'll think you'll find i do qualify, as an expert!

this is probably the first thread in a few months that ive actually read all of the comments over every page.
All i can say is i was suprised how good the thread went due to the subject.
Crazy - your attitude is top notch.
the car looks to be coming along and i would be interested in seeing more pictures.

With regards to getting free stuff, I have a friend who got a complete install for nothing to promote an install company, another friend had a chrome respray for nothing due to the company just starting up over in this country... I think the only thing you can do is hunt these people out and try to blag as much as you can, the worst they can do is say no, but if you dont ask you dont get.

Keep them pictures coming.

re insuring a 172.. it wouldnt be that much more expensive than insuring a bodykitted up car.. thats assuming you will be declaring all mods. insurance companys hate mods and have a field day.

  Scooby STi, FiestaST
depends on how they class the mods. Some insurers just slap on a percentage. My car has alloys/suspension/tints/alarm declared and they bumped it up 10% for all the "mods" and dropped it 5% for the alarm.

so all in all not that much of a change.

and before anyone asks who the insurer is.........don't laugh......... :)

its the National Farmers Union.

  Scooby STi, FiestaST
and mod friendly by the looks of things.... mind you dont see very many kitted tractors or combines.

Im sure Fubar will be on photoshop knocking em out if he sees this.

6k for the bodywork!

Lot of money for cosmetic stuff..I would have saved my pennies and gone for a 172/182

Already said, If i wanted a 182, I'd have one. I dont want one though, they dont appeal to me

No update for awhile but here we go. We were having HUGE problems with the sabre drift bumper, the arches just werent looking right and even worse, With this bumper,. 17s didnt even fit correctly! There was huge amounts rubbing even on 17s, whats it going to be like when i get bigger rims.

So I decided on a new bumper, the Prowler bumper, but with a twist. Ive had a vent under the grille removed and filled in, I've had slats removed, and the points of the bumper will be removed too, with the intakes smoothed and moulded round. They have also fitted the mirrors. Believe it or not they have garenteed me the car back for the 23rd! Not alot done as the bumper only arrived yesterday!

anyway heres pics.

thanks for the kind remarks, i gotta say i did like the drift bumper....................WHEN IT WAS OFF THE CAR! Never really liked it on though. This new bumper looks alot better in the felsh, and when its had the mods done to it, it will be a little less controversial. Its the spikey bits at the front that are putting you off :)

Some bad news, which i am not too happy bout :(

Went to see my car today, They told me theres NO WAY I'm going to get it back for Xmas, and they are off for a Week after that. I doubt I'm going to get it back for my Birthday which is mid January. Woudlnt have minded if they had told me a while ago there was no chance of getting it back for xmas, but you know.

The bumper is what has took the time, I admit that they didnt have a bumper to work with for a week but the bonnet hasn't even been started yet and they have had that for a while! Oh well :(

The filler has already cracked around one of the mirror baseplates, So that has got to be re done :( Its only a minor hairline crack you have to be really close to see it but it needs re doing. I'm a bit upset bout not getting it back for xmas as i was meant to be driving down to show my nan the car in devon on xmas day. Its kinda put a downer on my xmas but hey, However I'm very confident the car will be worth it in the end :)

The car went in on October 3rd.

bit of a bummer not getting it back for xmas :(

going this long without a car must be crap when your used to having it there to get you about, you not fancy getting yourself a little cheap diesel run arround to get you about untill its done?

As I said, you'll really regret having the mirrors done, I'd ask em to change it back if I were you.
