I figured this may be of interest to some... With my neighbour buying a new car soon I offered to try and tart his old 406 avant workhorse up prior to its sale.
The car had never been given a decontamination or cleanse so I thought I was in for a bit of a challenge.
Picked the car up at 10:30 and got it on my drive
RDSs, swirls, tar, iron fallout, general faded paint, faded plastics, deteriorated chrome trim, did I mention tar? Bird s**t, stone chips, the list goes on.
Got my trusty detailing station set up
Wonder wheels up first
Sprayed and agitated
Pressure washed off
Despite the curbing and a bit of paint wearing off (somehow) they weren't that bad
Washed the car with Lather
Then moved on to tardis
So, so much tar!
Lemon scent iron x came out next. I still very much recommend this to anyone using cherry iron x
I ended up having to give it a second going over with Tardis while agitating all the stubborn bits.
Rinsed and washed again to remove any remaining TARdis
The colour started to show through with the intermittent sun
Clay and glide
Oddly clean half bonnet
Other half
I found this very soft, it seemed to struggle to remove some of the more bonded bits of contamination. Is this down to it being on the car so long or the clay being overly soft?
Auto Finesse, are there any plans for a more aggressive clay?
Dried with an auto finesse towel helped by a spritz of finale and a rinse
Taped up half of the car
Gave a section of the bonnet a pass with tripple on a finishing pad.
It didn't really do anything so I moved on to auto finesse's revitalise #2 polish & the revitalise #2 pad
It gave a much better result than tripple
Although, and understandable, the RDSs remain
I restored a bit of colour to the faded petrol cap, although you can still see a slight difference
I wish I got a before pic but I managed to remove the majority of an unsightly scuff from the rear pillar
I found the rear bumper had seen paint. Evident by the different shade. The dodgy orange peels lacquer and the lacquer peeling off original paint on the other side of the bumper! Poor work. My neighbour had no idea that it had been done, so I felt a bit bad telling him.
I was expecting to have to bust out the revitalise #1 duo to tackle this but #2 gave brought it up fairly well

Comparison of the bit I polished and the bit further round
Sadly, the boss came home at half 3 and told me I had to go shopping. So I gave the car a few wipe downs with finale to remove the copious amounts of dust. Then applied a bit of Rejuvinate to see what I was up against with the trim
I think I'm going to have to tackle these with heat to be honest. But time will tell.
I'm hoping to finish polishing the car, give it a going over with tripple on a polishing pad, get the roof rack off and do the roof, treat/heat the plastics, seal everything and dress the tyres. Hopefully a few more hours should see it finished.
