[May 10, 2015] Spring 2015 Wales Run - Blacks & Beacons (Black mountains / South wales)

Sunday 10th May 2015! @ 09:00am
Where:
Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Village
Merthyr Tydfil
CF48 1UT
United Kingdom

Unless there are objections,Ill use the same rough route as the last meet which I thought was good!
162 miles, should take about 5 hours with regular stops.

Quite a few places to grab a bite and fuel at this place, other the last few meets we have all sat around with a breakfast before we head out on the drive.I think a good plan would be to go out on a drive, then sit down for food somewhere to get chatting.

So I could either look for en-route or if we all head back to Methyr and have something after the drive.
Will have to let me know on preferences.

We will be in the Brecon beacons and black mountains, about 200 miles of the best roads in south wales, as featured on that tv programme we all love (or hate).
As a bonus you get absolutely breathtaking scenery for free!!!
will stop on the horseshoe for pictures, videos, a few drives up and down.
Hopefully being May the weather will be half decent

Bring cameras, video cameras everything, lets try and promote Welsh roads to the club!

There is a Travelodge hotel at the meet point if anyone is coming from far and needs an overnight stop.

Doesn't have to be a Clio 197/200 or even a Clio to attend so don't be shy.
Show your interest below by just adding your name, car and where you are from

If people don't object I would like to use this event to raise money for Help for Heroes.
A charity that helps Servicemen and women on the road to recovery from injuries occurred on the front line.

Was actually hoping for something different this time round... i drive 40% of that route every single week

The route can be changed, Im driving it next week and seeing what can be added, Any suggestions are welcome.

Pen y pas would be my suggestion but i doubt many would be up for the drive, that is in my top 5 of breath taking roads in the UK
Black mountains really have been done to death.... i know plenty of people will want to do that drive so it will obviously be on the route

We are looking to do a drive up North Wales in the summer, It will be a long drive just to get up there for the South Wales / South West members.
Black mountains always pop up, I know that but for the quality of the driving roads I feel that they are worth it!
I totally agree about pen y pas, Love that road and I am embarrassed to admit I have not taken the 200 yet:relaxed:

its only as scary as you make it :p
I will say going down towards the quarry its bloody intense... going up is the highlight of it, its a shame the cafe at the top charge to park in the car park and its always full you can get some good photos up there

  Looking....
Agree with the Black mountains being done to many times and have herd rumors it's now 40mph up there?
Merthyr, Brecon, Builth, Rhayader, Elan Valleys, Devils Bridge, Aber, Machynlleth, Llanidloes via mountain road and back to Brecon is a nice little drive with some cracking roads.

Count me in on this, just bear in mind that the Black Mountain road is now 40mph and they're enforcing the s**t out of it. Cops are up there a lot.

See here for how Traffic Wales is determined to f**k up the place.

A lot of roads are seeing some major changes so we've got to be careful this summer!
I'll be there with my EP3  and I'm coming from near Pontypridd.

Might I suggest we add the Elan Valley to the trip? I know a few nice roads we could check out too where the cops won't be lurking, the main A roads have been spoiled now 😧

Some nice places to see in Mid-Wales though.

I had no idea of the speed changes, In what way are they enforced? not that we have a problem on our meets.
Elan valley is being thought about. im going for a drive in the week/weekend to have a looksie

The cops are sitting up there a lot on bikes, especially on the Black Mountain.
Nothing says you can't go up there, it's just the cops will lurk on a Sunday!
Elan Valley and beyond might be a bit less mainstream-touristy so we could get away with a good day out further into Mid-Wales.
At the end of the day I'll come along anyway as I've just made sure I have the day off :) I always enjoy the CS meets.
@msremmert They look great, I'd be up for that. Don't fancy getting a speeding ticket!

Not that we will be going crazy speeds but 40mph is a little slow! And if they are enforcing it, then the weekends will be when their out in force.
Agreed. Plenty of other places to drive and 40 is just a tad slow for my liking.
Shame though as I rather like the route that's been picked.

Elan valley is a good shout plenty of places to stop and theres a very entertaining ring road around the res, i'd be more than up for that, be good if we all parked on one of the big dams and got a few photos all in a line

Come on chaps... from south Wales and you haven't explored Elan Valley and the surrounding areas? You're missing out on a treat! :tonguewink:
I know [emoji17]
I'm ashamed of myself. Lol

Intended on going up last year but never got round to it.
To be honest I never go out "for a drive".... I usually incorporate a nice drive on my way to/ from somewhere.... Add a good road onto a journey as a detour.

I'd like to go out, purely for a drive, more often. Hence why joining forums is a good idea to me..... Similar people wanting an excuse to go out for a drive [emoji41]

I'd like to find the perfect road. .... very twisty and tight, but on an open bit of land, like a moor or something. Hard to find.
Plenty of twisty b roads around but I hate going too fast when you can't see if there's a tractor around the bend [emoji33]

I will look at a route in the week, going to drive the weekend. Msremmert may get various pm's as Elan valley is new to me
Of course feel free. I'll always answer :)

Hahaha! If the car is free then I will come along, but my better half works weekends and generally needs it. Until the Trophy is back on the road it's a bit of a pain sharing the one car.

  Focus RS + S3
Be nice for another excuse to use it
Im taking it to the ring end of the month so will be putting some miles on it

Cool, I'd love to go to the ring.

Guessing your one of his mates [emoji14]
Nah i dont think i know him mate, its the first tourist opening so i think a lot of people are heading out
