The weight does make them feel a bit more sluggish in my experience. They don't appear to have quite the instant pick-up of a 1*2 and it feels like you have to work them a bit harder. I bet there is virtually no difference in reality though. The 197/200 just doesn't feel as quick because it's more refined. The flip side of that is that it's 1000x nicer in terms of comfort. I'd much rather use a 197/200 as a daily than a 1*2, it's a much nicer place to sit when you're just plodding about.

In terms of handling, the 197/200 feel much more planted in my view. They inspire more confidence and I am pretty sure that they are quicker. Sure there was some comparative times floating around somewhere. Sure @Russ Rallye ran a production 197 in the Tricolore Trophy and it did fine against 1*2s

Two words regarding using one as a daily - fuel economy!!
They're s**t! Lol!! In tric trophy the weight is the killer mate for the mk3. Chassis wise it's superior though, and I should know as I spent my time at one point making the mk2's even better. As soon as I jumped in the 200, you could tell the chassis was leagues ahead of the 1*2. My old 230bhp motor in the 200 would've been a hoot for sure.

Wow. Even I give mine some stick it never drops below 30 lol

But then I don’t do many miles.

Pendulum swinging the Megane way. Just love the 200 looks.

Yeah but keep one thing in mind, I've done 900 miles in mine since I bought it. It was bought as a toy, so it does get driven when I drive it, if you get me. Tbh the gear ratios and the chassis almost goad you on too! Akrapovic helps as well. Lol

I Can't really comment on the drive/handling Dan, but It's certainly a more comfortable place to be, I've only driven my 197 about 15 miles bringing it home as I already had the meg engine ready to go.

I considered a meg as an option but just couldn't get over the rear end!

I'd definitely consider the storm though as we know how rare they are.

I've just got my Clio 200 after much deliberating over the R26 but I think it was the fact that I could properly enjoy driving the 200 and being able to use a lot of it's power on actual roads. I had read other comments and saw people mention the Megane was almost too capable and you'd only get the most out of it (particularly the LSD) on a track day.
And the Megane gets the same sort of MPG from what I had read. The Clio 200 has enough creature comforts to use it as a daily driver IMO, just got to learn how to drive it and you're away with a huge grin on your face wondering how you got round that roundabout so quickly.

I had a 197 cup, it didn’t feel as fast as my 172s and 182s and I never got about 28mpg and I drive like a saint.

They do look good but you’re chopping a depreciation proof rb for a 200 that will be at 3k in two to three years.

I’d stick with the rb or go Megane.
