idling at 3000rpm!

  1.4 16V MK2
Hi all,
i have a 2003 clio mk2 1.416v, which has an idling problem. it idles at around 1800 rpm when cold and 3000 rpm when warm! this happens even when i dip the clutch during normal driving.
i have removed, cleaned and refitted the throttle body but has made no difference. Was thinking it could be the throttle position sensor as i have had the electrical fault light on the dash before?]
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Make sure you haven't got an air leak some where, an air temp sensor no properly seated made my 172 idle at 3000rpm once.

Had this high idle problem a while back but it went away after turning the engine off and on again. So an air leak would be unlikely as it wouldnt be intermittent?

It will be an electrical fault.
A fault code will have been recorded in the ECU, get it read to point you in the right direction.
Where are you based?

Mine ticked over at 2k rpm when I got it. It was the Temp sensor! ECU was thinking the engine was at -40 deg lol.
Changed the sensor and cleared the fault, been perfect ever since :yum:
