RenaultSport Clio 182 geo/tracking settings

Hi,

this is my first post. I own a RenaultSport Clio 182 55 plate in black gold. it has under 70k on the clock and is well looked after. I live in Hull, just off willerby road.

I have had my Clio for around 4 years now and up to now, nothing has really gone wrong. I have mainly maintained it, replaced worn parts and upgraded others.

it has Michelin ps3 all round and turini alloys, I have had the steering wheel refurbished by 'snappy' in January and retrofitted the factory sat nav myself.

I will post some photos for you all but won't bore you with them.

The main reason for posting a thread is; I have just had new tyres fitted and at the same time had my tracking sorted out, the readout I got is worrying me a little bit so thought it a good idea to post a picture of it on here and see if anyone can cast any thoughts on it, the car drives spot on and tracks straight when I hold the wheel straight, although when I let go it will go off to the left. I know the front left caliper slider is semi seized which I will be replacing in the next few weeks, all I ask is that someone cast a bit of info on the readout if at all possible.

Front camber needs sorting, some Eibach camber bolts will take care of that.

Could they not get the front toe a bit more even? Say 0°06' each side?

Rear left is toeing out too, not uncommon with the rear beams on these being known to be bent. Ideally want toe in on the rear. Would require shims on the stub axle to fix that. A 0°20' (20 minute) shim would be ideal.

I will get camber bolts for front. Do I just swap bolt with the upper bolt which passes through shock/hub and leave the bottom standard

Also, would I be correct saying with the rear it would then put it to +11 so that would sort it toeing out and the total toe will more or else be bang on?

Will I require just the one shim for that side and not touch the other? It won't make that side wider would it, sorry for all questions

Yeah the camber bolts replace the top bolt, leaving the bottom one standard.

Yeah, the 20 minute shim would take it to 0°11' on the left side, so practically bang on with the other side yeah. It won't affect the right side no.

Thanks for clearing that up. So the shim won't make that wheel noticeably stick out.

I've had a quick look on the internet and found puremotorsport, will it be ok to buy from these guys

No the wheel won't stick out much more, the shims are only quite thin. Won't be noticeable.

Yeah Pure Motorsport are great, i've had loads of bits from them (yesterday actually lol).

Will I be able to use the existing bolts or will I need the longer ones they sell

Reckon I'll be a returning customer, didn't realise they sold as much as they do, the Mrs will be pleased!

You can reuse your ones if they come off ok.

The ones i linked are standard length ones, maybe worth getting just as a precaution in case one of yours decides to shear off or play up when you're removing them.

I will get some of them on order, is there anyway I can sort out the front caster and/or the rear camber?
I'm not sure if the front caster is set up like that from the factor as they're both pretty much the same

Looking at the front caster, I`d hazard a guess that the front wishbones have been replaced with some eBay items to the Ph1/std Ph2 172 configuration,

6000073511/2 & not the revised 172 Cup/182 items 8200257956/7 at some time.

Hi Steve,

I have replace the front passenger wishbone with a genuine renault item which came with ball joint pressed in, I made sure it was for a 182 with cup suspension although haven't don't drivers side

Only got a far as looking at front camber, bet that's awful to drive!!!!
To me it drives ok! Haven't driven another 172/182 though so I am probably wrong. This is why I started this thread as I would like to get this all sorted out

I have double checked and the wishbone is definitely 8200257956

I've got 2 print outs from 2 different places that have the caster as 2°30 and 3°30 with no changes made to it lol.

I'd leave it tbh, it's more important for it to be equal rather than big numbers.

Seems ok to drive in straight like and now you mention it steering does feel heavy.

How can I go about sorting this out please

Camber will sort that.



1mm total is fine, it's pretty much factory.

1mm either side, so 2mm total would be very aggressive for a road car.
Right, if I get camber bolts that will sort out heavy steering, shim for the rear to sort out the toe.

I'd leave the caster tbh, it could just be like i said. The guys at kwik fit may have not set it up right.

The easiest way to add more caster is with adjustable top mounts.

Tried to get in with Adam at Clear Motorsport for my setup, but he's only doing kit car stuff now.


Used Richard at tuned UK by Chester a few times now, he's sound. Worth the trip there and he's pretty easy to get in with as well. Normally get stuff within a couple of days.

Yeah i've heard him mentioned. I'm booked in with Grinspeed now, Adam actually recommended him.

Either the Kwikfit guy needs to go on a course, or you have some play in steering gear or ball joints.
I believe it may be the first option! They said they will check it again on their machine for free later today so will see how that comes out. Failing that I think I will go to someone who knows what they're doing, any suggestions?

Well, for a start...the first tracking job done....Clio 3 -2005 - 2012...is where part of your problem lies as the wheelbase on that model that they've set it for is totally different to the wheelbase of a 182. So you will not get an accurate read out in any scenario there. Total different geometry between models.

Right, I've had it checked again at a cost of £65! Didn't want to go back to kwikfit! Does this readout look ok? Anything wrong?
