Another garage lockdown day yesterday. Last coat of Quadra on the Clio. Started prepping the spare rocker cover I had for paint, asked how to remove the cam that the specialist I bought it from and found out that not using the original is a bad idea. Would have been nice if the specialist I bought it from had told me that and saved me £25 🙄

Fitted new plates to my daily, washed my bike and hung up my dartboard.

Parts pile growing. New rad from PMS, new injectors and Cup alternator and bracket. Alternator sent away for refurb and despite being told it was working fine, it isn’t. No biggie as the cost is sensible and the company doing the work come highly recommended.

It was booked in for dephaser as we went into lockdown so debating whether remotely sensible to take it down next week.

I follow you on instagram always impressed with the level of attention to detail (y)
Thanks fella. The more I’ve done during lockdown, the more needs sorting. Engine bay needs a lot of work, lots of bits needed underneath too. Never ending!

I will be honest I look at all the threads like yours and it scares me that it just becomes never ending as I can be very obsessive once I've started. Trying to stay on the side of just doing the functional stuff on my own project.. for now.

I'm the same. I had the front bumper off the other day and I was looking at all the muck and telling myself I don't need those parts to be all clean and shiny. Luckily my will is strong and I left it filthy and put the bumper back over it all😂.
The ac rad was a bit crusty though🙄.

My AC rad rusted off its bracket and took out the radiator, left me with no coolant and stranded! Took the opportunity to delete the AC and hpas while the engine was out. I’ve spent enough money this year without painting bolts 😅

You put the engine back in without painting the bolts😱.

@andy_coops anyone dismissing silver need to see pics of your car, it really is stunning and one of my faves on here👍.

Alternator back from the guys at Burghfield Starters and Alternators. Long name, small company. Photos speak for themselves. Really really pleased with the result. They even reattached the old Renault sticker 🤣👌

Appreciate that - thanks. There’s a lot more impressive builds than mine on here. Enjoy yours 👍

Last soft touch nastiness gone. Surfex HD, scouring sponge and lots of elbow grease and an hour later much better. Photo crap but it’s now nice and smooth.

PS3’s fitted too - contactless by my local garage as I don’t trust anyone else with my wheels. No paying work for them now for a month 😳

Next is some tidying up of the front chassis.

Do you think Autosmart's G101 would work as well?

I can’t see why not. I’ve heard it can bleach interior surfaces if too strong though.

I used a regular pan scourer - sponge with a scouring pad on top. Worked well.

Another day of lockdown fun in the garage.

I’d been wanting to tidy up the hubs for ages as they’re rusty and nasty. In reality everything needs stripping out and doing properly - for now a bit of black Hammerite will do.

Callipers got a freshen up as they were looking a bit tired. Wheel weight residue removed and found a few ml of Exo in the garage so have the faces a quick coat.

Slightly better pic of the centre binnacle - looks flat but it’s not as bad as it appears. Better than the dead person skin feel or knackered soft touch anyway 👍

Day off today so some more lockdown projects. Seatbelt buttons restored, cargo net added and all exterior plastics coated with Gyeon Trim. Wife’s car washed as still in almost daily use.

Belts service next - possibly later this week.

Your going to have to share what you've done to the belt buttons. I got in mine the other day and thought "I wonder if there's anything to restore those back to red"!

Belts finally done last Friday. Trip down to Gary Spooner and the following was carried out.

- dephaser and belts
- water pump
- A/C delete using Cup alternator setup
- new radiator
- new injectors
- new plugs
- new coolant bottle
- Cup bulkhead plate fitted

Revs more keenly, feels a bit more lively and mpg marginally better.

I’ve now started sorting the bay. Small quantity of rust to offside turret treated, primed and painted and oil filler cap cleaned up - the new ones don’t have the Elf logo and I wanted some clean original bits.

Couple of bay pics - lots to paint and tidy up. Looking forward to the next stage. Coolant flush also on the cards - was done twice last week but still some old stuff left 🙄

Fantastic as usual 👌 bet it’s comforting (despite the bill) to get those major service items sorted and done!

Thanks bud. Indeed it is - I knew it was coming so the cost wasn’t so bad in the scheme of things. Aside from a knackered alternator ages ago the routine maintenance costs over the last 4 years have been very manageable.

Lots of little jobs ticked off. Coolant flushed again as some of the old pink shite was stuck in the system. All done and Mountain Dew goodness so OCD is satisfied. New thermostat fitted at the same time.

Coolant bottle lid emblem painted. Just because.

Cup bulkhead panel removed, wire brushed and painted before being hidden where it can hardly be seen and headlights polished as the Meguiars kit started to haze rather disappointingly

MOT Wednesday - it’s on extension as it expired April so doing it as better safe etc.

Front jacking points might also be sorted this week - never use them but they’re horrid and it’s in the workshop anyway.

Oh and bitten the bullet and booked in for paint next week - bumpers, rear quarters and run strips, dent removal. Fed up with saying “it’ll do from 10’ away” and no summer holiday this year anyway. That’s my maths anyway.

Trip to Surrey Rolling Road. Was hoping for a slightly better result but down on power although improved mid range torque.

Run 1 was October 18, Run 2 today.

Temperature been put forward as a possible reason versus October 18. Bit gutted after the amount I’ve spent over the last few weeks but onwards.

Productive day. First thing popped down to The Clio Man to check timing and it’s spot on. I’m going to revisit the RR later in the year when it’s cooler. Car feels as quick as ever so I’m not going to get hung up over last weekend’s result.

Back home and stripped down ready for the trip up to the paintshop tomorrow. Can’t wait to see how she looks when it’s all done 😁😁

Off to the paintshop today. Looking toward to getting her back - can’t wait to see how she’ll look.

Cleaned and coated replacement fog surrounds and original rear bumper insert, rubbed down and primed upper grille ready for paint tomorrow.

And while the car’s away garage is being cleared out, tidied and floor painted - may as well while I’ve got the space etc.

Beam picked up from Mark - great deal as usual. Sending this off for blasting and powdercoating shortly.

Tidying up jobs continue. Upper grille painted - 4 coats of paint and 2 of satin lacquer. Overkill but worked last time as only a few chips. Looks pretty too.

Garage floor painted and proper sort out of all the s**t that gathers without knowing how it got there. Second coat of paint later this week.

Not the most exciting update.

Paint update.

Bumpers primed and being filled and re-primer before paint. Everything else rubbed down and ready for primer.

I’ve decided to have the bonnet done too - de-dented and all chips taken out.

Looks like we caught the fuel filler area too - that’s being rubbed back, etched and painted and new bolts to secure filler flap.

Looking forward to getting her back!
